4. Setup
4.1. Charging the Scanner
Before first use, fully charge the scanner. Connect the small end of the USB charging/data cable to the scanner's charging port and the larger end to a USB power adapter (not included) or a computer's USB port. The charging indicator light will show the charging status. A full charge provides up to 12 hours of continuous operation.
4.2. Assembling the Stand
The included stand allows for hands-free scanning. Assemble the stand by connecting the upright support to the base and then attaching the scanner holder. Ensure all parts are securely fastened. The stand can be adjusted to various angles for optimal scanning.
4.3. Connecting via 2.4GHz Wireless (Recommended)
- Insert the USB receiver (dongle) into an available USB port on your computer or host device.
- Turn on the barcode scanner. It will automatically attempt to pair with the receiver.
- Once connected, the scanner will emit a confirmation beep, and the indicator light will show a stable connection. The operating range is up to 100 meters in open areas.
4.4. Connecting via USB Cable
For wired operation or when wireless is not preferred:
- Connect the small end of the USB cable to the scanner's port.
- Connect the larger end of the USB cable to a USB port on your computer or host device.
- The scanner will be recognized as a HID keyboard device and is ready for use.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Powering On/Off
- Power On: Press and hold the trigger button for a few seconds until the scanner powers on and emits a beep.
- Power Off: Press and hold the trigger button for a few seconds until the scanner powers off. The scanner may also enter sleep mode automatically after a period of inactivity to conserve battery.
5.2. Scanning Barcodes
Point the scanning window at the barcode you wish to scan. Press the trigger button. A red aiming beam will appear, followed by a green light and a beep upon successful scan. Ensure the entire barcode is within the aiming beam for optimal reading.
The scanner supports a wide range of 1D and 2D barcodes, including:
- 1D Codes: UPC/EAN, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, Code 11, Interleaved 2 of 5, Industrial 2 of 5, Matrix 2 of 5, Standard 2 of 5, Codabar, MSI, GS1 DataBar, etc.
- 2D Codes: QR Code, Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec Code, MaxiCode, HANXIN, Micro QR-Code, etc.
5.3. Scanning Modes
- Manual Trigger Mode: The scanner reads a barcode only when the trigger button is pressed. This is the default mode.
- Continuous Scanning Mode: When placed on the stand, the scanner can be configured for continuous scanning. In this mode, the scanner automatically detects and reads barcodes presented within its field of view without requiring a trigger press. Refer to the included programming guide (if separate) or scan specific configuration barcodes to activate this mode.
6. Battery and Charging
The Astrum BS220 is equipped with a 2000mAh rechargeable battery, providing up to 12 hours of continuous operation on a full charge. When the battery is low, the indicator light will flash, and the scanner may emit a low battery warning sound. Connect the scanner to a power source using the provided USB cable to recharge.
Note: For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently and store the scanner in a cool, dry place when not in use for extended periods.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution to clean the scanner's exterior, especially the scanning window. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the scanner in a dry, dust-free environment away from extreme temperatures.
- Handling: Avoid dropping the scanner or subjecting it to strong impacts. While durable (IP52 rated), excessive force can cause damage.
