4. Setup Instructions

4.1. Initial Power-Up

  1. Install Batteries in Outdoor Sensor: Open the battery compartment on the outdoor sensor array and insert 3 AA batteries, observing correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
  2. Install Batteries in Indoor Console: Open the battery compartment on the back of the indoor display console and insert 3 AAA batteries, observing correct polarity.
  3. Connect Power Adapter to Console: Plug the power adapter into the DC power jack on the indoor console, then into a wall outlet. The console will power on.
  4. Sensor Pairing: The indoor console and outdoor sensor will automatically attempt to pair. This process may take a few minutes. Ensure both units are within range during initial setup.

4.2. Outdoor Sensor Placement

Proper placement of the outdoor sensor array is crucial for accurate readings.

  • Location: Choose an open area free from obstructions like buildings, trees, or fences that could block wind, rain, or sunlight. For optimal wind readings, the sensor should be at least four times the distance of the nearest obstruction.
  • Orientation: The solar panel on the outdoor sensor array must face south for accurate UV/light readings and to maximize solar power assistance. Use a compass to ensure correct orientation.
  • Mounting: Use the provided mounting pole and brackets to secure the sensor array. Various mounting options are available (see Image 4.1). Ensure it is mounted securely to withstand wind and weather.
  • Wireless Range: The sensor transmits data up to 328 feet (100 meters) wirelessly to the indoor console. Consider this range when choosing a location.

4.3. Indoor Console Placement

Place the indoor console in a convenient location where the display is easily visible. Ensure it is within the 328-foot wireless range of the outdoor sensor.

4.4. Radio-Controlled Clock (RCC) Synchronization

The weather station features an atomic clock function that automatically searches for the WWVB signal to calibrate time and date. This search is performed daily to correct any deviations.

  • Upon initial power-up, the console will automatically begin searching for the WWVB signal.
  • Ensure the correct time zone is selected on your weather clock based on your location for accurate time display.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Battery Replacement

  • Outdoor Sensor: The outdoor sensor array requires 3 AA batteries. While the solar panel assists in powering the UV/light sensor, it does not charge the AA batteries. It is recommended to use high-quality alkaline or lithium batteries, especially in extreme temperatures, to ensure consistent performance and prevent leakage. Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the console.
  • Indoor Console: The indoor console uses 3 AAA batteries for backup power. Replace these when the low battery indicator appears.

6.2. Cleaning

  • Periodically clean the rainwater collector and wind cups to ensure accurate readings. Remove any debris such as leaves or insects.
  • Wipe the solar panel with a soft, damp cloth to keep it free of dirt and dust.
  • Clean the display console with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your weather station, consider the following common solutions:

  • No Data on Console: Ensure both the outdoor sensor and indoor console have fresh batteries and are powered on. Check that they are within wireless range and that there are no major obstructions between them. Try resetting both units.
  • Inaccurate Readings: Verify the outdoor sensor's placement. Ensure it is free from obstructions and correctly oriented (solar panel facing south). Clean the rainwater collector and wind cups if necessary.
  • Time/Date Incorrect: Ensure the console is receiving the WWVB signal. Check your selected time zone. If the signal is weak, try relocating the console.
  • Display Issues: If the screen is dim or flickering, check the power adapter connection and replace the AAA backup batteries. Adjust the backlight brightness.
