Safety Information
WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious injury or death. Always observe basic safety precautions when installing and operating this equipment.
- Disconnect power before servicing.
- Ensure the system is installed by a qualified professional in accordance with local codes.
- Do not operate the system if any part is damaged.
- Keep children away from the equipment.
- Never operate the pump dry.
- Maintain proper water chemistry in your pool.
- Always relieve pressure in the filter tank before opening the multi-port valve or performing maintenance.
Components List
Verify that all components are present before beginning installation:
- Sand Filter Tank (24-inch)
- 1.5 HP Pool Pump (115V)
- Multi-port Valve
- Filter Basket
- Pressure Gauge
- Connecting Hoses and Clamps
- Base Plate
- User Manual
Setup
1. Placement
Position the filter system on a firm, level surface, preferably concrete, as close to the pool as possible. Ensure adequate ventilation and protection from direct sunlight and harsh weather. Maintain sufficient clearance around the unit for servicing.
2. Assembly
- Attach the pump to the base plate.
- Place the filter tank onto the base plate.
- Connect the multi-port valve to the top of the filter tank. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated and secure the clamp.
- Install the pressure gauge into the designated port on the multi-port valve.
3. Adding Filter Media
The VINGLI filter system is compatible with both filter sand and filter balls. For optimal performance, use #20 silica sand (0.45-0.55mm) or approved filter balls.
- Remove the multi-port valve from the tank.
- Cover the standpipe opening inside the tank to prevent sand from entering.
- Carefully pour the filter media into the tank. Refer to the specifications table for the recommended amount of sand.
- Remove the standpipe cover and re-attach the multi-port valve.

4. Plumbing Connections
Connect the pool plumbing to the multi-port valve and pump:
- Connect the hose from the pool skimmer/main drain to the pump's inlet (suction side).
- Connect the pump's outlet (discharge side) to the "PUMP" port on the multi-port valve.
- Connect the "RETURN" port on the multi-port valve to the pool's return line.
- Connect the "WASTE" port on the multi-port valve to a suitable waste line or backwash hose.

Operating Instructions
The multi-port valve controls the flow of water through the filter system. Always turn off the pump before changing the valve position to prevent damage.

Image: The multi-port valve highlighting its six operational functions.
- FILTER: Normal filtering mode. Water flows through the sand bed, trapping debris, and returns to the pool.
- BACKWASH: Cleans the filter by reversing water flow, flushing trapped debris out the waste port.
- RINSE: Used after backwashing to flush residual dirt from the valve and sand bed to the waste port, preventing it from returning to the pool.
- WASTE: Bypasses the filter, sending water directly from the pool to the waste port. Useful for vacuuming heavy debris or lowering pool water level.
- RECIRCULATE: Bypasses the filter, circulating water directly back to the pool. Useful for mixing chemicals without filtering.
- CLOSED: Shuts off all flow to the filter and pump. Do not operate the pump in this position.
Initial Startup and Backwash
- Ensure all connections are secure and the pool is filled to the proper level.
- Prime the pump by filling the pump basket with water if it's not self-priming.
- Set the multi-port valve to the "BACKWASH" position.
- Turn on the pump. Backwash for 2-3 minutes or until the water in the sight glass (if present) runs clear.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the multi-port valve to the "RINSE" position.
- Turn on the pump. Rinse for 30-60 seconds.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the multi-port valve to the "FILTER" position.
- Turn on the pump. The system is now operating in normal filtration mode.
Maintenance
Regular Backwashing
Backwash the filter when the pressure gauge reads 8-10 PSI above its clean operating pressure, or when water flow to the pool noticeably decreases. Follow the "Initial Startup and Backwash" procedure.
Filter Media Replacement
Filter sand typically needs replacement every 3-5 years, depending on usage and water chemistry. Filter balls may last longer but should be inspected annually.
Winterization
Before freezing temperatures arrive, drain all water from the pump and filter tank. Disconnect hoses and store the pump and multi-port valve in a dry, protected area. The filter tank can remain outdoors if completely drained.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Low Water Flow / High Pressure | Clogged filter media; clogged pump basket; closed valve. | Backwash and rinse filter; clean pump basket; check valve positions. |
| Pump Not Priming | Air leak in suction line; low water level in pool; pump basket not filled. | Check all connections for leaks; ensure adequate pool water level; fill pump basket with water. |
| Water Returning Dirty | Insufficient backwash/rinse; damaged lateral assembly; incorrect valve setting. | Perform thorough backwash and rinse; inspect laterals for damage; ensure valve is on "FILTER". |
| Pump Not Starting | No power; motor overload; faulty wiring. | Check power supply and circuit breaker; allow motor to cool; consult a qualified electrician. |
