1. Introduction
The KONNWEI KW850 is a professional OBD2 scanner and 12V car battery tester designed to assist with vehicle maintenance and diagnostics. This device allows users to read and clear engine fault codes, monitor real-time data, perform I/M readiness checks, and analyze battery health. 2. Safety Information

3.2 Button Functions and Indicators

- ESC Button: Returns to the previous menu or cancels an operation.
- I/M Button: Performs quick checks for State Emissions readiness and drive verification.
- OK Button: Confirms a selection from a menu list or proceeds to the next step.
- Toggle Buttons (Up/Down/Left/Right Arrows): Moves the cursor, scrolls through data, or changes selections.
- Help Button: Provides contextual help information and Code Breaker function.
- Green LED: Indicates that engine systems are running normally.
- Yellow LED: Indicates a possible problem in one or more of the vehicle's systems.
- Red LED: Indicates a serious problem in one or more of the vehicle's systems.
4. Setup
4.1 Connecting to the Vehicle
- Locate the vehicle's 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC). This is typically found under the dashboard on the driver's side.
- Ensure the vehicle's ignition is off.
- Firmly plug the KW850's OBDII connector into the vehicle's DLC.

4.2 Powering On
Once connected, turn the vehicle's ignition to the 'ON' position (engine off). The KW850 will automatically power on and display the main menu.
4.3 Language Selection
The KW850 supports multiple languages. To change the language:
- From the Main Menu, navigate to 'Tool Setup' using the arrow buttons and press 'OK'.
- Select 'Language' and press 'OK'.
- Choose your desired language from the list (English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Russian) and press 'OK' to confirm.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Main Menu Navigation
The main menu provides access to all primary functions of the KW850. Use the arrow buttons to navigate between options and press 'OK' to select.

5.2 Diagnostic Functions
Select 'Diagnostic' from the main menu to access the following functions:
- Read Codes: Retrieves Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the vehicle's control modules. This includes common (P0, P2, P3, U0), manufacturer-specific (P1, P3, U1), and pending codes.
- Erase Codes: Clears DTCs from the vehicle's memory and turns off the Check Engine Light (MIL). Note: Clearing codes does not fix the underlying problem.
- I/M Readiness: Checks the status of emission-related monitors to determine if the vehicle is ready for an emissions test.
- Data Stream: Displays real-time operating parameters of the vehicle's engine in text or graphic mode.
- Freeze Frame: Captures a snapshot of sensor data at the moment a fault code was set, aiding in diagnosis.
- O2 Sensor Test: Retrieves O2 sensor monitoring test results for the most recently completed tests.
- On-Board Monitoring (Mode 6): Retrieves test results for emission-related powertrain components and systems that are not continuously monitored.
- EVAP System Test: Initiates a test of the Evaporative Emission Control System.
- Vehicle Information: Retrieves the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), Calibration ID (CIN), and Calibration Verification Number (CVN).
5.3 DTC Lookup
From the main menu, select 'DTC Lookup'. Enter a specific DTC using the arrow buttons to navigate and 'OK' to confirm each character. The scanner will display the definition of the code, helping to identify potential issues.
5.4 Battery Test (BAT Check)
Select 'BAT Check' from the main menu to monitor the vehicle's battery voltage in real-time and perform a health check. This function analyzes key parameters such as Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) and State of Charge (SOC) to assess battery condition.
5.5 Review Data
Select 'Review' from the main menu to access stored data streams, freeze frame data, and previously retrieved DTCs. This allows for later analysis of vehicle performance trends.
5.6 Print Data
The KW850 allows you to print diagnostic data. Connect the scanner to a computer via the provided USB cable. Use the KONNWEI update tool software (available on the manufacturer's website) to retrieve and print stored data.
5.7 Help Function
Press the 'Help' button at any time for contextual information regarding the current screen or selected function. This feature provides quick explanations and guidance.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Software Updates
KONNWEI provides lifetime free software updates for the KW850. To update the device:
- Download the update tool software from the official KONNWEI website.
- Install the software on your computer.
- Connect the KW850 to your computer using the USB cable.
- Follow the on-screen instructions in the update tool to download and install the latest firmware.
Regular updates ensure compatibility with new vehicle models and provide performance enhancements.
6.2 Cleaning the Device
Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior of the scanner. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Keep the device free from dust and moisture.
7. Troubleshooting
- Device does not power on: Ensure the OBDII connector is securely plugged into the vehicle's DLC and the vehicle's ignition is in the 'ON' position. Check the vehicle's fuse for the OBDII port if the issue persists.
- Communication error: Verify that the vehicle is OBDII/EOBD compliant. Ensure the connection is secure. Try the scanner on another compliant vehicle to rule out a vehicle-specific issue.
- Screen frozen: Disconnect the scanner from the vehicle, wait a few seconds, and reconnect. If the issue persists, perform a software update.
