6. Operating Instructions
The SUNPOW OT-MD15 offers 4 specialized search modes and 10 sensitivity levels for optimal detection.
6.1 Power On/Off
Press and hold the power button on the control box to turn the detector on or off.
6.2 Adjusting Sensitivity
Use the sensitivity adjustment buttons on the control panel to select one of the 10 available sensitivity levels. Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but may also increase false signals in mineralized ground.
6.3 Search Modes
The detector features four distinct modes, optimized for various detection scenarios:
- All-Metal Mode: Detects all types of metals without discrimination. Ideal for finding all metal objects.
- DISC (Discrimination) Mode: Allows you to eliminate unwanted metal targets sequentially, such as iron or aluminum, to focus on more valuable items.
- NOTCH Mode: Provides free discrimination between 4 categories of metals, allowing you to ignore specific types of junk metal.
- PINPOINT (PP) Mode: Used to precisely locate the exact position of a detected target, reducing the need for extensive digging.

6.4 Metal Identification
The LCD screen provides instant identification of 7 types of metals, displaying numerical target values to help you determine the type of metal detected before digging.

6.5 Detection Depth
The advanced Double D search coil and improved processor allow for real detection up to 25 cm (10 inches) deep, even in areas with strong interference, providing clearer signals.

7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning
- After each use, especially in sandy or muddy conditions, clean the search coil with fresh water.
- Wipe the control box and shaft with a damp cloth. Ensure the control box remains dry.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the device.
7.2 Storage
- Store the metal detector in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- If storing for an extended period, ensure the battery is partially charged (around 50%) to prolong its lifespan.
- Disassemble the detector if necessary for compact storage in the provided backpack.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power | Battery is depleted | Charge the battery using the USB-C cable. |
| False signals / erratic behavior | High sensitivity in mineralized ground; Electromagnetic interference; Loose coil cable. | Reduce sensitivity; Move away from power lines or other electronic devices; Ensure coil cable is tightly wrapped and connected. |
| Poor detection depth | Low sensitivity setting; Highly mineralized soil. | Increase sensitivity; Perform ground balance if available (check manual for specific model features); Sweep slower. |
| No sound from headphones | Headphones not connected properly; Volume too low; Faulty headphones. | Ensure headphones are fully plugged in; Increase volume; Test with another pair of headphones. |
