1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your HP 14" Student Laptop. Designed for productivity and portability, this laptop features an efficient Quad-Core Intel Processor, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and a versatile storage solution including 64GB UFS and a 256GB Ghost Manta MicroSD card. It comes pre-installed with Windows 11 Home in S mode and includes a 1-year Microsoft Office 365 subscription.

2. Setup

Initial Power On

To power on your HP 14" Student Laptop for the first time, ensure it is connected to the Type-C 45W PD Fast Charger. Press the power button located on the side of the laptop. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the initial Windows setup.

Switching out of Windows 11 S Mode

Windows 11 Home in S mode is designed for security and performance, exclusively running apps from the Microsoft Store. If you need to install apps from outside the Microsoft Store, you can switch out of S mode. This is a one-way process.

  1. On your PC running Windows 11 in S mode, open Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
  2. In the Switch to Windows 11 Home or Switch to Windows 11 Pro section, select Go to the Store. (If you also see an "Upgrade your edition of Windows" section, be careful not to click the "Go to the Store" link that appears there.)
  3. On the Switch out of S mode (or similar) page that appears in the Microsoft Store, select the Get button.
  4. After you see a confirmation message on the page, you'll be able to install apps from outside of the Microsoft Store.

Activating 1 Year Microsoft Office 365

Your laptop comes with a pre-installed 1-year Microsoft Office 365 subscription. Follow these steps to activate it:

  1. Launch any Office app (e.g., Word, Excel).
  2. Start your activation by signing in with your Microsoft account (create an account if you don't have one yet).
  3. Click "Activate Office".
  4. Sign in to your account and follow the next prompts.
  5. Complete Step 1, 2, and 3.
  6. Click on Refresh once Office is ready.
  7. Open a document and accept the license agreement.
