Key Features
- Integrated Anti-Siphon: Provides backflow protection, eliminating the need for a separate device.
- Versatile Compatibility: Works with both 24V AC solenoids and DC-latching battery controllers.
- Durable Construction: Features a glass-filled nylon body, stainless steel components, and a robust 6-bolt bonnet for resistance against pressure, UV, and wear, rated up to 150 PSI.
- Precision Flow Control: Allows fine-tuning of water flow for individual irrigation zones, suitable for lawns, gardens, and drip systems.
- Easy Installation: Designed with captive screws and standard 1" threaded ports for straightforward setup. For outdoor cold water use only.
Setup and Installation
The Hunter PGV-ASV valve is designed for simple installation in residential and light commercial irrigation systems. Ensure all connections are secure and watertight.
- Prepare the Site: Ensure the main water supply is turned off before beginning installation.
- Threaded Connections: Connect the valve to your 1" threaded pipes. The valve has an arrow indicating the direction of water flow; ensure it is installed correctly.
- Secure the Valve: Use appropriate tools to tighten connections, but avoid over-tightening to prevent damage to plastic parts.
- Electrical Wiring: Connect the 24V AC solenoid wires to your irrigation controller or DC-latching battery controller as per your system's wiring diagram.
- Initial Flow Control Adjustment: Before turning on the main water supply, ensure the flow control knob is in an open position (counter-clockwise).

Operating Instructions
The PGV-ASV valve offers both automatic and manual operation, along with adjustable flow control.
Automatic Operation:
Once wired to an irrigation controller, the valve will open and close according to the programmed schedule. Ensure the controller is properly set up and powered.
Manual Operation:
- Manual Bleed: To manually open the valve, turn the solenoid a quarter turn counter-clockwise. Water will begin to flow. To close, turn the solenoid clockwise until snug.
- External Bleed: Some models may have an external bleed screw. Turn it counter-clockwise to open the valve manually, and clockwise to close.
Flow Control Adjustment:
The flow control knob on top of the valve allows you to adjust the amount of water flowing through the zone. This is useful for balancing pressure or reducing water output for specific areas.
- Turn the flow control knob clockwise to decrease water flow.
- Turn the flow control knob counter-clockwise to increase water flow.
- Do not over-tighten or force the knob, as this can damage the valve.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your Hunter valve. Periodically inspect the valve for debris or blockages.
Cleaning the Exhaust Port:
Debris can sometimes clog the exhaust port, preventing the valve from opening. To clean it:
- Turn off the main water supply to the valve.
- Unscrew the bonnet (top part) of the valve by loosening the captive screws.
- Carefully lift the bonnet and solenoid assembly.
- Locate the small exhaust port hole in the valve body and in the underside of the bonnet/solenoid assembly.
- Use a small piece of wire or a thin tool to clear any debris from these holes.
- Reassemble the valve, ensuring the diaphragm is correctly seated and screws are tightened evenly.

Troubleshooting
If your Hunter valve is not operating as expected, consider the following common issues:
Valve Not Opening:
- No Power from Controller: Verify that the irrigation controller is sending power to the valve. The controller might indicate operation, but power may not be reaching the valve due to wiring issues.
- Flow Control Closed: Ensure the flow control knob is turned counter-clockwise to allow water flow. If it's fully closed (clockwise), the valve will not open.
- No Water Supply: Check if the main water supply to the irrigation system is on. A shut-off valve upstream of the irrigation valve might be closed.
- Clogged Exhaust Port: Debris in the exhaust port (as described in the Maintenance section) can prevent the valve from opening. Clean both the port in the valve body and the one in the solenoid assembly.
