5. Operation
5.1 Initializing New Hard Drives
If you are using new hard drives, they may need to be initialized, partitioned, and formatted before they can be used.
- Windows: Open Disk Management (Right-click "This PC" > "Manage" > "Disk Management"). Locate the new drive, right-click it, and select "Initialize Disk." Follow the prompts to create a new simple volume and format it.
- Mac OS: Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility). Select the new drive, click "Erase," choose a format (e.g., APFS or Mac OS Extended), and confirm.
5.2 Data Transfer
Once the hard drives are recognized by your system, you can drag and drop files to and from the drives as you would with any other storage device. The enclosure supports USB 3.1 Gen1 speeds, offering theoretical transfer rates up to 5Gbps, with real-world read/write speeds around 260MB/s.

Note: If multiple disks are used simultaneously, the transfer speed may be slightly reduced.
5.3 Smart Sleep Function
The enclosure features a smart sleep technology. If there is no data activity for approximately 10 minutes, the hard drives will automatically enter sleep mode. This reduces power consumption and helps to prolong the lifespan of your hard drives. The drives will wake up automatically upon access.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Heat Dissipation
The ORICO 9728C3 is equipped with a built-in 60mm silent fan and large ventilation holes to ensure optimal heat dissipation. This design helps maintain stable operating temperatures for your hard drives, enhancing their safety and the overall durability of the unit.

6.2 Cleaning
To ensure proper airflow and prevent dust buildup, periodically clean the exterior of the enclosure with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials. Ensure the device is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
7. Troubleshooting
7.1 Enclosure Not Detected
- Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to both the enclosure and a working power outlet.
- Verify the USB data cable is firmly connected to both the enclosure and your computer's USB port.
- Try a different USB port on your computer.
- Test with a different USB cable if available.
- Ensure the hard drives are properly seated in their trays and the enclosure cover is closed.
- For new drives, ensure they are initialized and formatted (refer to Section 5.1).
7.2 Slow Data Transfer Speeds
- Ensure you are connected to a USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 port on your computer for optimal performance. Connecting to a USB 2.0 port will result in significantly lower speeds.
- The actual transfer speed depends on the speed of your hard drives. Older HDDs will be slower than modern SSDs.
- Avoid transferring multiple large files simultaneously, as this can divide bandwidth.
- Ensure your computer's drivers (especially USB drivers) are up to date.
7.3 Drives Not Spinning Up
- Check the power adapter connection.
- Ensure the hard drives are correctly installed in the trays.
- Test with a different hard drive to rule out a drive issue.
