2.2 Important Warnings

  • Do not paint the detector. Paint can clog the vents and interfere with sensor operation.
  • Do not block the air vents on the detector.
  • This detector requires a continuous power supply (110V-220V AC) to operate. It does not have a battery backup.

4.2 Initial Power-Up

  1. Plug the detector into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.
  2. Upon initial power-up, the detector will perform a self-test. The digital display will cycle through segments, and the alarm may sound briefly. This indicates proper functioning.
  3. Once the self-test is complete, the green POWER indicator light will illuminate, and the display will typically show "0 PPM" under normal, CO-free conditions.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Normal Operation

During normal operation, the green POWER indicator light will be steadily lit. The digital display will show "0 PPM" if no carbon monoxide is detected. The detector continuously monitors the air for CO.

5.2 Test Function

To test the detector, press and hold the Test/Mute Button (located on the side or front, as shown in Figure 2) for approximately 3 seconds. The alarm will sound, and the display will show a test value (e.g., "8888" or a high PPM reading). Release the button to stop the test. This confirms the alarm and display are functioning correctly.

5.3 Alarm Conditions and Responses

The detector is programmed to alarm at specific CO concentration levels and durations:

  • CO Concentration ≥ 80 PPM: The corresponding concentration will be displayed on the digital screen.
  • CO Concentration ≥ 150 PPM: A loud audible alarm (85 dB) will sound, and the red ALARM indicator light will flash.

The effects of carbon monoxide exposure vary with concentration and duration:

  • 100 PPM: Slight headache within 2 to 3 hours.
  • 200 PPM: Slight headache within 2 to 3 hours, loss of judgment.
  • 400 PPM: Frontal headache within 1 to 2 hours.
  • 800 PPM: Dizziness, nausea, cramps in 45 minutes; death within 2 to 3 hours.

5.4 What to Do When the Alarm Sounds

  1. Immediately move to fresh air outdoors or open all doors and windows to ventilate the area.
  2. Do a head count to check that all persons are accounted for.
  3. Do not re-enter the premises until the CO alarm has stopped and the area has been thoroughly ventilated.
  4. Call the fire department or a qualified technician to investigate the source of the carbon monoxide.
  5. If the alarm sounds again, repeat steps 1-4.

5.5 Mute Function

In the event of a nuisance alarm (e.g., from temporary, low-level CO exposure during cooking), you can press the Test/Mute Button to temporarily silence the audible alarm for a short period. The detector will continue to monitor CO levels. If CO levels remain high, the alarm will reactivate.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the continued reliability of your CO detector.

  • Weekly Test: Press the Test/Mute button weekly to ensure the alarm and display are functioning.
  • Monthly Cleaning: Gently vacuum or wipe the exterior of the detector, especially around the air vents, to remove dust and debris. Do not use cleaning sprays or solvents.
  • Avoid Obstructions: Ensure that nothing is blocking the air vents of the detector.

7. Troubleshooting
