It is crucial to follow this guide carefully to ensure proper installation and functionality.

5. Programmable Functions

The Remap Kit offers five programmable functions to customize your gameplay:

  • Mapping: Assign any of 15 controller buttons to the 4 back paddles.
  • Turbo: Hold a paddle to trigger rapid-fire.
  • Auto-Turbo: Tap a paddle once to start continuous auto-fire.
  • Combo: Execute a sequence of buttons with one paddle.
  • Key Combination: Trigger multiple button inputs simultaneously with a single paddle.

All functions can be set directly on the controller without the need for software or a PC.

Figure 5.2: Auto-Turbo Function. This image provides an example of how to enable Auto-Turbo for a mapped button (e.g., X button on P1). It outlines the steps: first map the X button to P1, then press the 'Sel' button three times, press the P1 button, and finally press the 'Set' button. Pressing P1 once will then perform auto-fire for the X button.

5.2. How to Use Auto-Turbo Function

Figure 5.3: Combo Function. This image explains how to set up a Combo function, where a single paddle press executes a predefined sequence of buttons (e.g., L2 → R2 → L1). Note that combos cannot be used with Turbo or Auto-Turbo, and input timing must be quick during setup.

Figure 5.4: Key Combination Function. This image details the Key Combination function, allowing a single paddle to trigger multiple button inputs simultaneously (e.g., L1 + R2 + X). Input order does not matter during setup, and this function cannot be used with Turbo or Combo functions.

6. Testing and Clearing Settings

6.1. Self-Test Mode

Use Self-Test Mode to quickly check if all back paddles and buttons are functioning properly after installation.

Video 6.1: Self-Test Mode. This video demonstrates how to enter and use the Self-Test Mode to verify the functionality of all back paddles and controller buttons. In this mode, pressing any paddle or controller button will cause the Status Light to flash, confirming its operation.

6.2. Clear All Programmable Buttons

To clear all programmable settings on your controller:

  1. Press the 'Sel' button once.
  2. Then hold the 'Set' button for 3 seconds.

All programmable settings will be cleared, and all function LEDs will flash for 2 seconds to confirm.

6.3. Adjust Auto-Turbo Speed

Turbo and Auto-Turbo functions share the same speed settings. You can adjust them as follows:

  1. Press the 'Sel' button three times.
  2. Press D-pad Up to increase speed or D-pad Down to decrease.
  3. Press the 'Set' button to confirm.

There are four adjustable speed levels: Level 1 (50 rds/s), Level 2 (150 rds/s), Level 3 (200 rds/s), and Level 4 (500 rds/s).

7. Materials and Design

The CHARM FOCUS Remap Kit is designed for durability and comfort:

  • Enhanced Materials: Back paddles are made of high-strength POM material.
  • Responsive Switches: Equipped with Omron tactile switches for fast response (5ms response time compared to 30ms for original switches).

8. Troubleshooting / FAQ

8.1. General Questions

  • Q: Can the controller still connect wirelessly to the console after installing the DIY kit? Will vibration be affected?
A: No impact. The controller supports both wired and wireless connections to the console. All original functions of the controller, including the vibration feature, will remain fully operational.
  • Q: Does the Type-C port serve other purposes besides upgrade?
A: No. The Type-C port is strictly for firmware upgrades. It does not affect normal use or support other connections.
  • Q: Can I still use the official charging dock or protective case after the modification?
A: Since the structure of the back shell is modified, some official charging docks or third-party protective cases may not fit properly. We recommend using more compatible universal accessories or charging directly with a Type-C cable.
  • Q: Can a macro like "YY" be configured?
A: Although external macro commands are not supported, the built-in combo and key combination functions allow common multi-tap or multi-button inputs (e.g., "YY"), covering most gameplay needs.

8.2. Functionality Issues

  • Q: Why does the mapped/turbo button not respond after setting?
A: Ensure there are no repeated button presses during setting, as this causes failure. Retry setting carefully. You can use Self-Test Mode to check button responsiveness.
  • Q: What's the difference between Combo and Key Combination functions?
A: The Combo function triggers each assigned button sequentially in the preset order. The Key Combination function, on the other hand, triggers multiple assigned buttons simultaneously as soon as you press the programmable button. Key Combination is ideal for scenarios that require simultaneous input.
  • Q: What's the difference between turbo and auto-turbo?
A: Turbo requires holding the programmable button to activate rapid fire; auto-turbo activates automatically after a single press and is ideal for continuous actions. These two functions cannot be enabled at the same time.

8.3. Installation Issues

  • Q: Why is the status indicator not lighting up after installation?
A: If the status indicator does not light up after installation, it usually means the back button module is not powered correctly. Please first check whether the solder joints are secure or if there are any solder bridges, and ensure that the ribbon cables are properly inserted without being loose or reversed. Also, if the controller has been used for a long time, the metal contacts between the original button board and the main board may have oxidized and darkened, causing poor connection. We recommend using an eraser to gently clean the contacts until they appear silver again before reinstalling.
  • Q: After successful installation, the buttons have no function or response. What should I do?
A: If the product passes the self-test after installation but the controller buttons still do not respond, please check whether the device has accidentally entered the setting mode (any function indicator light is on). Press the Set button to exit the setting mode (all function indicator lights turn off), and the buttons should return to normal operation.
