2.3. Camera Placement and Mounting

Choose a location that provides the desired view and is within range of your Sync Module 2. Ensure the camera is positioned to capture important activity while minimizing false triggers from moving branches or traffic.

  • Optimal Height: 8-10 feet (2.4-3 meters) above the ground.
  • Angle: Angle the camera downwards to capture motion effectively.
  • Mounting: Use the provided mounting kit to securely attach the camera to a wall or other surface.

3. Operating Your Blink Outdoor 4

Understand the basic functions and controls of your security camera system.

3.1. Live View

To view live video from your camera, open the Blink app and tap the "Live View" icon next to the camera's name. This allows you to see real-time footage and use two-way audio.

3.2. Arming and Disarming the System

The Blink system can be armed or disarmed from the home screen of the app. When armed, motion detection is active, and clips will be recorded. When disarmed, motion detection is paused.

3.3. Accessing Recorded Clips

Recorded motion clips are stored in the cloud (with a subscription) or locally on a USB drive connected to the Sync Module 2. Access these clips via the "Clips" tab in the Blink app.

4. Features and Settings

Customize your Blink Outdoor 4 to suit your specific security needs.

4.1. Motion Detection

Adjust motion detection settings to optimize performance and reduce false alarms.

  • Motion Sensitivity: Controls how much movement is required to trigger a recording.
  • Activity Zones: Define specific areas within the camera's view where motion detection should be active or ignored. This helps focus on critical areas and prevent unwanted recordings.
  • Retrigger Time: Sets the duration before the camera can detect motion again after a recording.
  • Clip Length: Determines the maximum length of recorded motion clips.

4.2. Night Vision

The Blink Outdoor 4 uses infrared (IR) illumination for night vision. Ensure there are no obstructions directly in front of the camera that could reflect the IR light and degrade image quality.

  • IR Illuminator: Can be set to Auto, On, or Off. Auto is recommended for most situations.
  • IR Intensity: Adjust the strength of the IR light for optimal night visibility.

4.3. Two-Way Audio

Engage in real-time conversations through your camera using the two-way audio feature. During Live View or clip playback, tap the microphone icon to speak and the speaker icon to listen.

4.4. Storage Options

Blink offers both cloud storage (via a subscription plan) and local storage options.

  • Cloud Storage: Requires a Blink Subscription Plan for cloud video recording, live view recording, and unlimited motion-activated recordings.
  • Local Storage: Connect a USB flash drive (up to 256 GB) to your Sync Module 2 to store motion clips locally without a subscription.

4.5. Smart Home Integration

Integrate your Blink Outdoor 4 with smart home platforms for enhanced control and automation.

  • Amazon Alexa: Link your Blink account to Alexa to arm/disarm your system, view live feeds on compatible Echo devices, and receive motion alerts.
  • Other Integrations: Check the Blink app for other available smart home integrations.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your Blink Outdoor 4 camera.

5.1. Battery Replacement

The Blink Outdoor 4 uses two AA 1.5V Lithium batteries, designed for up to two years of life under typical usage. Replace batteries when the app indicates low power.

  1. Remove the camera from its mount.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Replace old batteries with new AA 1.5V Lithium batteries. Do not use alkaline or rechargeable batteries.
  4. Securely close the battery compartment cover.

5.2. Cleaning

Periodically clean the camera lens and housing with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt, dust, or smudges that may affect image quality.
