Front Panel Controls and Display

The front panel features a 2.86-inch color LCD display (960*376 resolution) for intuitive operation. Below the display are four dedicated buttons for AMP, I.R., EQ, and AMB (Ambience) effect blocks. A large rotary encoder in the center allows for navigation and parameter adjustment. Two footswitches, labeled GLOBAL and ON, provide control over presets and effect activation.

  • INPUT: 1/4-inch instrument input.
  • THROUGH: 1/4-inch output to parallel the power amp signal, useful for connecting to a real amplifier's power section.
  • OUTPUT 1 & 2: Stereo balanced 1/4-inch outputs with Ground Lift for connecting to a mixer, audio interface, or power amplifier.
  • USB: USB-C port for firmware updates, USB audio interface functionality, and connection to the SOLID STUDIO editor software. This port also supports MIDI.
  • DC 9V: Power input for the included 9V DC adapter.
  • AUX IN: 1/8-inch auxiliary input for connecting external audio sources for practice.

3. Setup

  1. Power Connection: Connect the included 9V DC power adapter to the DC 9V input on the rear panel. Plug the adapter into a suitable power outlet. The unit will power on automatically.
  2. Instrument Connection: Connect your guitar or other instrument to the INPUT jack on the rear panel.
  3. Audio Output:
    • For stereo output, connect OUTPUT 1 and OUTPUT 2 to your mixer, audio interface, or two separate amplifier inputs.
    • For mono output, connect OUTPUT 1 to your desired destination.
    • For silent practice, connect headphones to the PHONES output (located on the side, not visible in rear panel image).
    • To use the Solid Studio MKII with a real amplifier's power section, connect the THROUGH output to your amplifier's input and use the INJECT input mode.
  4. USB Connection (Optional): Connect the USB-C port to your computer for firmware updates, using the unit as an audio interface, or editing presets with the SOLID STUDIO editor software.
  5. Auxiliary Input (Optional): Connect an external audio player (e.g., smartphone, MP3 player) to the AUX IN jack for playing along with backing tracks.

4. Operating Instructions

Basic Operation

  • Power On/Off: The unit powers on when connected to the DC 9V adapter. Disconnect power to turn off.
  • Preset Selection: Use the GLOBAL footswitch to cycle through presets. The display will show the current preset number and settings.
  • Effect On/Off: Use the ON footswitch to bypass or engage the selected effect block within a preset.

Navigating and Editing

  • Block Selection: Press the AMP, I.R., EQ, or AMB buttons to select and edit parameters for each effect block.
  • Parameter Adjustment: Turn the large rotary encoder to adjust values for the currently selected parameter. Press the encoder to confirm selections or enter sub-menus.
  • Saving Presets: After making changes, follow the on-screen prompts to save your preset. The Solid Studio MKII offers 128 preset slots.

Advanced Features

  • TSAC-4K Amp Modeling: The unit features independent Preamp and Power Amp simulation with 8 classic AMP models and 4 inputs for patch cable jumping.
  • IR Loader: Independent L/R 60 IR slots are available for loading custom Impulse Responses.
  • Input Modes: Select between NORMAL and INJECT input modes. INJECT mode is used to parallel the power amp signal, allowing the unit to be placed between an amplifier and a speaker cabinet (or loadbox) to utilize only the signal chain beyond the amp simulation.
  • Global Settings: Access global settings to adjust parameters such as NOISE GATE, EQ, PHONES LEVEL, AUX IN LEVEL, and OUT LEVEL.
  • USB Audio Interface: The USB-C port allows the Solid Studio MKII to function as an audio interface for direct recording to a computer.
  • Firmware Update: Connect via USB-C to update the device firmware using the NUX update tool.
  • SOLID STUDIO Editor Software: Use the dedicated editor software on your computer for comprehensive control, preset management, and IR loading.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the unit. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish or internal components.
  • Storage: Store the unit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Software Updates: Regularly check the official NUX website for firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and access to new features.
  • Power Supply: Always use the specified 9V DC power adapter. Using an incorrect power supply can damage the unit and void the warranty.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Sound:
    • Ensure the power adapter is securely connected and the unit is powered on.
    • Check all audio cable connections (input, output, amplifier/mixer).
    • Verify that the volume levels on the Solid Studio MKII, your instrument, and your amplifier/mixer are appropriately set.
    • Ensure the effect is not bypassed (check the ON footswitch status).
    • Check global settings for output level and noise gate.
  • Distorted Sound:
    • Reduce the input gain on the Solid Studio MKII or your instrument.
    • Check the output level to ensure it is not clipping your amplifier or mixer.
    • Review the settings of the AMP, I.R., and EQ blocks for excessive gain.
  • Unit Not Responding:
    • Disconnect and reconnect the power adapter.
    • If connected to a computer, ensure the correct drivers are installed and the editor software is up to date.
  • USB Connection Issues:
    • Try a different USB-C cable or port on your computer.
    • Ensure the necessary drivers are installed for your operating system.
    • Restart your computer and the Solid Studio MKII.
