Setup

1. Tube Installation:

  1. Carefully unpack the 5654W and 6AC7 vacuum tubes.
  2. Identify the correct sockets for each tube type on the GR70 unit. The 5654W tubes are typically smaller and fit into the front sockets, while the 6AC7 tubes are larger and fit into the rear sockets.
  3. Gently align the pins of each tube with the holes in the socket. Apply slight pressure and push the tube straight down until it is firmly seated. Do not force the tubes.
  4. Place the tube protection covers over the tubes if desired.

Kind Reminder: The tubes used in the GR70 are rare vintage components. Signs of aging on the tube appearance are normal and reflect their retro character and collectible value. Print styles on the tubes may vary slightly due to different production batches. Tubes are shipped at random—thank you for your understanding.

2. Connecting Audio Sources:

  • Connect your audio source (e.g., CD/DVD player, DAC, PC, laptop, tablet) to the RCA Input (AUDIO IN) on the rear panel of the GR70 using RCA cables. Ensure left and right channels are correctly matched (red for right, white for left).

3. Connecting Headphones or Speakers:

  • For Headphone Use: Plug your headphones into either the 3.5mm or 6.35mm headphone jack on the front panel.
  • For Preamplifier Use (with external power amplifier/speakers): Connect the RCA Output (AUDIO OUT) on the rear panel of the GR70 to the input of your power amplifier or powered speakers using RCA cables.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your Fosi Audio GR70, please refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  1. No Sound Output:
    • Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the GR70 and a working power outlet.
    • Verify that the GR70 is powered on (tubes should glow).
    • Check all audio cable connections (RCA input, headphone output, or RCA output to speakers/amp) for proper seating and correct channel assignment.
    • Confirm that your audio source is playing and its volume is not muted or set too low.
    • Adjust the GR70's volume knob.
    • If using headphones, try another pair to rule out headphone issues.
  2. Distorted Sound:
    • Reduce the volume on both the GR70 and your audio source. Overdriving the input or output can cause distortion.
    • Check if the impedance mode switch (HI-Z/LO-Z) is correctly set for your headphones. Incorrect setting can lead to distortion or poor sound quality.
    • Ensure the vacuum tubes are fully seated in their sockets. Loose tubes can cause intermittent or distorted audio.
    • Test with a different audio source and cables to isolate the problem.
  3. Humming or Buzzing Noise:
    • Ensure all cables are properly shielded and away from power cables or other electronic devices that might cause interference.
    • Try plugging the GR70 into a different power outlet, preferably on a different circuit.
    • Check for ground loop issues. If connecting to multiple components, consider using a ground loop isolator.
    • Ensure the tubes are properly installed and not faulty.
  4. Tubes Not Glowing:
    • Verify the power connection and ensure the unit is turned on.
    • Check if the tubes are correctly and fully seated in their sockets.
    • If only one tube is not glowing, it might be faulty and require replacement.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, please contact Fosi Audio customer support for further assistance.

Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Fosi Audio GR70:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the unit. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as they may damage the finish.
  • Tube Care:
    • Vacuum tubes have a finite lifespan. If you notice a significant degradation in sound quality or a tube stops glowing, it may need replacement.
    • When replacing tubes, ensure the unit is powered off and unplugged. Allow tubes to cool completely before handling.
    • Handle tubes by their base to avoid touching the glass, as oils from your skin can create hot spots and shorten tube life.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the ventilation holes on the sides of the unit are not obstructed to allow for proper heat dissipation.
  • Storage: If storing the unit for an extended period, disconnect it from power and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
