5. Setup and Installation

The ULNA CPE806S is designed for plug-and-play setup. Follow these steps for initial pairing and various deployment scenarios.

5.1 Initial Pairing (Plug & Play)

  1. Power On: Connect both CPE806S units to their respective 24V PoE adapters, then plug the adapters into a power outlet. Connect the PoE port of each adapter to the PoE port on each bridge unit using an Ethernet cable.
  2. Set Master/Slave: On one unit, short press the 'Reset' button until the digital display shows 'A' (Master Bridge). On the second unit, short press the 'Reset' button until the digital display shows 'B' (Slave Bridge).
  3. Select Channel: Short press the 'Reset' button on either unit to cycle through channels (0-9, A-F). Ensure both units are set to the same channel.
  4. Verify Pairing: Wait for the SIG1-SIG4 LED indicators on both units to light up, indicating successful pairing and signal strength. All four LEDs lit signifies optimal signal.

5.2 Network Extension (Bridge + AP Mode)

To extend your existing network and provide Wi-Fi access at the remote location:

  1. Connect the Master Bridge (Unit A) to a LAN port on your main router/modem using an Ethernet cable.
  2. At the remote location, connect the Slave Bridge (Unit B) to the WAN port of a secondary Wi-Fi router using an Ethernet cable.
  3. Power on the secondary Wi-Fi router. Devices at the remote location can now connect to the secondary router's Wi-Fi network.

5.3 Long-Distance IP Camera Deployment

To extend surveillance coverage to remote areas:

  1. Connect your NVR (Network Video Recorder) or DVR (Digital Video Recorder) to the Master Bridge (Unit A) using an Ethernet cable.
  2. At the remote location, connect the Slave Bridge (Unit B) to your IP camera(s) or an Ethernet switch connected to multiple IP cameras.
  3. Ensure the NVR/DVR and IP cameras are configured with compatible IP addresses within the same network segment.
  4. The live camera feed should now be viewable on your monitor connected to the NVR/DVR.

6. Operating Modes and Advanced Configuration

The CPE806S supports both Point-to-Point (PTP) and Point-to-Multipoint (PTMP) modes, offering flexibility for various network topologies.

6.1 Point-to-Point (PTP) Mode

In PTP mode, two CPE806S units establish a direct wireless link, acting as a virtual Ethernet cable between two locations. This is the default plug-and-play configuration.

6.2 Point-to-Multipoint (PTMP) Mode

For PTMP deployments, one Master Bridge (Unit A) can connect to multiple Slave Bridges (Units B). This allows for network extension to several remote locations from a single central point. Ensure all units are on the same channel for proper communication.

6.3 Web User Interface (Web UI)

For advanced configuration, such as changing Wi-Fi name (SSID), password, channel, or IP address settings, you can access the device's web UI. Refer to the included Quick Start Guide for the default IP address and login credentials. It is recommended to change default credentials for security.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure optimal performance and longevity of your ULNA CPE806S wireless bridge.

  • Physical Inspection: Periodically check the mounting brackets and cables for any signs of wear, damage, or loose connections. Ensure the units are securely fastened.
  • Cleaning: Gently clean the exterior of the units with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents. Keep the ports free of dust and debris.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the official ULNA support channels periodically for available firmware updates. Keeping the firmware updated can improve performance, add features, and enhance security.
  • Environmental Check: Ensure the units are not obstructed by new foliage or structures that could interfere with the wireless signal.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your CPE806S, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Units not pairing (LEDs not lighting up)Incorrect Master/Slave setting, different channels, power issue, faulty cable.Verify one unit is 'A' and the other is 'B'. Ensure both are on the same channel. Check power connections and Ethernet cables. Try a different cable.
Slow or unstable connectionObstructions (trees, buildings), excessive distance, interference, poor alignment.Ensure clear line of sight between units. Reduce distance if possible. Check signal strength LEDs (aim for all 4). Re-align units for optimal signal. Avoid sources of strong interference.
No internet access at remote locationIncorrect cable connection, router configuration, IP address conflict.Ensure Master Bridge is connected to a LAN port on the main router. Ensure Slave Bridge is connected to the WAN port of the secondary router (if applicable). Check IP settings of connected devices.
Cannot access Web UIIncorrect IP address, network configuration, browser issue.Verify the correct default IP address (refer to Quick Start Guide). Ensure your computer is on the same network segment as the bridge. Try a different web browser.
Device not powering onPower adapter issue, incorrect PoE voltage, faulty cable.Check if the power outlet is working. Ensure you are using the provided 24V PoE adapter. Verify the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the PoE port.

If the problem persists after trying these solutions, please contact ULNA customer support for further assistance.
