3. Operating Instructions
The KM601s offers both a convenient SMART mode and a comprehensive manual mode for various measurements.
3.1. Powering On/Off
Press the power button to turn the multimeter on. The device will automatically enter SMART mode. To turn off, press and hold the power button.
3.2. SMART Mode Operation
In SMART mode, the multimeter automatically identifies and measures AC/DC voltage, resistance, and continuity. This mode simplifies basic measurements by eliminating the need for manual range selection.
- Turn on the multimeter. It will default to SMART mode.
- Connect the test leads to the circuit or component you wish to measure.
- The multimeter will automatically detect the type of measurement and display the reading.

This image highlights the "SMART" and "AUTO FUNC" features on the KM601s display, illustrating its capability to automatically detect measurement types like voltage, resistance, and continuity.
3.3. Manual Mode Operation
For specific measurements or advanced functions, switch to manual mode by pressing the "FUNC" or "RANGE" button. Repeatedly pressing these buttons will cycle through available functions within a category.
The KM601s can accurately measure the following parameters in manual mode:
- AC/DC Voltage (V): Measures alternating and direct current voltage.
- Resistance (Ω): Measures electrical resistance.
- Continuity (Ω with buzzer): Checks for a complete circuit path.
- Current (A, mA): Measures alternating and direct current.
- Capacitance (F): Measures electrical capacitance.
- Frequency (Hz): Measures the frequency of an AC signal.
- Diodes (→|): Tests the functionality of diodes.
- Duty Cycle (%): Measures the ratio of pulse duration to period.
- Temperature (°C/°F): Measures ambient or contact temperature using a thermocouple (if included).
- NCV (Non-Contact Voltage): Detects AC voltage without direct contact.
- Live Wire Detection: Identifies live electrical wires.

4. Maintenance and Care
4.1. Cleaning
To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your multimeter and test leads, follow these cleaning guidelines:
- Wipe the exterior of the multimeter with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Ensure the test leads are clean and free of debris, especially the probe tips and banana plugs.
- Do not immerse the multimeter in water or any liquids.
4.2. Battery Maintenance
The KM601s uses a rechargeable lithium battery. To maximize battery life:
- Recharge the battery when the low battery indicator appears.
- Avoid completely draining the battery frequently.
- If storing the multimeter for an extended period, charge it to approximately 50% capacity and recharge every few months.
4.3. Storage
When not in use, store the multimeter and test leads in the provided carrying case. Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your KAIWEETS KM601s Digital Multimeter, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Display/Does Not Turn On:
- Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the multimeter to a USB power source and allow it to charge.
- Check if the power button is pressed and held sufficiently.
- Incorrect Readings:
- Verify that the test leads are securely connected to the correct input jacks for the desired measurement.
- Ensure the multimeter is in the correct mode (SMART or appropriate manual mode) for the measurement.
- Check the test leads for any damage or breaks.
- Ensure the component or circuit being tested is functioning correctly.
- "OL" or Overload Indication:
- This indicates that the measured value exceeds the multimeter's range for the current setting. Switch to a higher range if in manual mode, or ensure the measurement is within the device's specifications.
- No Continuity Beep:
- Ensure the multimeter is set to continuity mode.
- Check if the circuit is truly continuous.
