3. Setup Instructions

3.1 Boltless Assembly

The shelving unit features a boltless design for quick and easy assembly. A rubber mallet and gloves are included to assist you.

  1. Prepare Components: Lay out all components on a clean, flat surface. Wear the provided work gloves.
  2. Assemble Vertical Posts: Connect the upper and lower sections of the vertical posts using the provided metal coupling pieces. Ensure they are securely joined.
  3. Attach Horizontal Beams: Begin by attaching the horizontal beams to the vertical posts for the bottom shelf. Align each beam with the designated slots on the posts.
  4. Secure Beams: Use the rubber mallet to gently tap the beams into place, ensuring they are fully seated at the bottom of the slots. This creates a secure connection.
  5. Install Wire Mesh Shelves: Once the frame for a shelf is complete, place a wire mesh shelf onto the horizontal beams.
  6. Repeat for Remaining Shelves: Continue attaching horizontal beams and placing wire mesh shelves for the remaining tiers.
  7. Install Foot Pads: Place the plastic foot pads onto the bottom of the vertical posts to protect your floor.
  8. Install Anti-Tip Kit: Secure the assembled shelving unit to the wall using the anti-tip kit as described in the Safety Information section.

3.2 Adjustable Shelves

The height of each shelf can be adjusted in 2.3-inch (5.8 cm) increments to accommodate items of various sizes.

  1. Empty Shelf: Ensure the shelf you wish to adjust is empty.
  2. Disengage Beams: Gently tap the horizontal beams upwards with the rubber mallet to disengage them from their current slots.
  3. Reposition Beams: Move the horizontal beams to the desired new height, aligning them with the corresponding slots on the vertical posts.
  4. Secure Beams: Tap the beams firmly into the new slots with the rubber mallet until they are fully seated.
  5. Replace Shelf: Place the wire mesh shelf back onto the repositioned beams.

3.3 Splitting into Two Units

This 5-tier unit can be split into two smaller, independent shelving units (e.g., a 3-tier and a 2-tier unit) to suit different storage needs.

  1. Disassemble: Follow the disassembly steps in reverse to separate the vertical posts at the desired split point.
  2. Reassemble: Reassemble the two sections as individual units, ensuring each unit has its own set of foot pads and is secured with an anti-tip kit if placed against a wall.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and performance of your shelving unit.

  • Rust Prevention: The unit is constructed from rust-resistant powder-coated steel. To maintain this, avoid prolonged exposure to moisture and high humidity.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all connections to ensure they remain secure. Re-tap beams with the rubber mallet if any looseness is detected.
  • Damage: Inspect for any signs of damage or bending. Do not overload shelves.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your shelving unit, refer to the following common solutions:

  • Unit is Unstable/Wobbly:
    • Ensure the unit is placed on a flat, level surface.
    • Verify all horizontal beams are fully seated in their slots. Use the rubber mallet to tap them down firmly.
    • Confirm the anti-tip kit is properly installed and secured to the wall.
    • Check that all foot pads are correctly installed on the bottom of the posts.
  • Difficulty Assembling Beams:
    • Ensure you are wearing the provided gloves for better grip and protection.
    • Use the rubber mallet to gently but firmly tap the beams into the slots. Avoid excessive force.
    • Check for any slight bending in the metal components. Minor bends can often be corrected by hand before assembly.
  • Shelves Not Level:
    • Re-check that all four horizontal beams for the affected shelf are seated at the same height level in their respective slots.
    • Ensure the floor surface is level.
