Kariwust Linear Actuator KDPT007-117 Power Recliner Motor Replacement Manual

Model: KDPT007-117

Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Kariwust Linear Actuator, Model KDPT007-117. This motor is designed as a replacement for Kaidi Model KDPT007-117 and similar linear actuators used in power recliners and lift chairs.

Key Features:

  • Direct replacement for OEM Kaidi Power Recliner Lift Chairs Motor Actuator Model KDPT007-117.
  • Features a 2-pin flat round male power transformer connection and a 5-pin female hand control connection.
  • Stroke: 330 mm (12.99 inches).
  • Minimum install dimension: 48 mm (1.89 inches).
  • Speed: 36 mm/s.
  • Maximum load capacity: 1500 N.

Important: Always verify the model number and connector types of your existing motor against the specifications of this replacement motor (KDPT007-117) before proceeding with installation.

Safety Information

  • Disconnect power to the recliner or lift chair before attempting any installation or maintenance.
  • Ensure all connections are secure and correctly oriented to prevent electrical hazards or malfunction.
  • Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 1500 N (approximately 152 kg or 335 lbs).
  • Use only with compatible power supplies and hand controls.
  • Keep hands and loose clothing clear of moving parts during operation.

Setup and Installation

This section outlines the general steps for replacing a linear actuator. Specific chair designs may vary, so refer to your chair's original manual if available.

1. Preparation

  1. Disconnect Power: Unplug the recliner or lift chair from the wall outlet.
  2. Position Chair: Carefully turn the chair onto its side or back to access the motor assembly.
  3. Identify Connections: Note the connections of the existing motor to the power transformer and the hand control.

2. Removing the Old Actuator

  1. Disconnect Cables: Carefully unplug the power cable (2-pin flat round) and the hand control cable (5-pin female) from the old motor.
  2. Remove Mounting Pins: Locate the mounting pins or bolts that secure the actuator to the chair frame. Remove these pins/bolts. Keep them for reinstallation.
  3. Extract Actuator: Once disconnected and unmounted, carefully remove the old linear actuator from the chair frame.

3. Installing the New Actuator

  1. Position New Actuator: Place the new KDPT007-117 linear actuator into the mounting brackets on the chair frame.
  2. Secure Mounting Pins: Reinsert the mounting pins or bolts to secure the actuator firmly in place. Ensure they are tight but do not overtighten.
  3. Connect Cables:
    • Connect the 2-pin flat round power cable from the power transformer to the corresponding port on the new motor.
    • Connect the 5-pin female hand control cable to the corresponding port on the new motor.
  4. Cable Management: Ensure all cables are routed safely and are not pinched or in the way of moving parts.

Operating Instructions

Once the KDPT007-117 linear actuator is correctly installed and all connections are secure:

  1. Restore Power: Plug the recliner or lift chair power cord back into a wall outlet.
  2. Test Operation: Use the hand control to test the full range of motion of the recliner or lift chair.
  3. Smooth Movement: The actuator should extend and retract smoothly without unusual noises or jerky movements. If any issues arise, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

Duty Cycle: The motor has a maximum duty cycle of 2 minutes ON and 18 minutes OFF (10%). Avoid continuous operation for extended periods to prevent overheating and prolong motor life.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and proper function of your linear actuator.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the actuator with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Inspect Cables: Regularly check all power and control cables for any signs of wear, fraying, or damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.
  • Check Connections: Ensure all electrical connections remain secure and free from corrosion.
  • Lubrication: The internal components of the actuator are factory-lubricated and generally do not require additional lubrication. Do not attempt to open the motor housing.
  • Mounting Points: Verify that the actuator's mounting pins or bolts are secure and not loose.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your linear actuator, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Motor does not move when hand control is pressed.
  • No power to the chair.
  • Loose or disconnected power cable.
  • Faulty hand control.
  • Overload protection activated.
  • Check if the chair is plugged into a working outlet.
  • Ensure the 2-pin power cable is securely connected to the motor and transformer.
  • Test with a known working hand control if available.
  • Allow the motor to cool down for 20-30 minutes if it was operated continuously.
Motor moves slowly or with difficulty.
  • Chair mechanism binding.
  • Actuator overloaded.
  • Low voltage.
  • Inspect the chair's frame and moving parts for obstructions or damage.
  • Ensure the load on the chair does not exceed 1500 N.
  • Verify the power supply is providing adequate voltage (DC 29V).
Unusual noise during operation.
  • Loose mounting hardware.
  • Internal motor issue.
  • Obstruction in the chair mechanism.
  • Check and tighten all mounting pins/bolts.
  • Inspect the chair for any objects interfering with movement.
  • If noise persists and is internal to the motor, contact support.
