3. Setup

Initial Charging:

Your G-Shock GW-5000HS-1 is equipped with Tough Solar technology. Before initial use, expose the watch face to bright light (natural sunlight is ideal) for several hours to ensure a full charge. The power indicator on the display will show the current charge level.

Time Synchronization (Multiband 6):

The watch automatically receives time calibration signals from six transmission stations worldwide (Japan, North America, Europe, China) to maintain accurate time. Place the watch near a window at night for optimal signal reception. Manual reception can also be initiated if needed.

Setting Home City/Time Zone:

To ensure correct time display and radio signal reception, set your Home City (time zone). Refer to the detailed instruction manual (Module 3495) for specific steps on how to adjust your Home City and other timekeeping settings.

5. Maintenance

Water Resistance:

The GW-5000HS-1 is rated for 20 ATM (200 meters) water resistance. This means it is suitable for recreational diving, swimming, showering, and snorkeling. Do not operate buttons while the watch is submerged in water.

Cleaning and Care:

Wipe the watch regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dirt and moisture. For stubborn grime, use a mild soap solution and rinse thoroughly with fresh water, then dry completely. Avoid exposing the watch to harsh chemicals or solvents, which can damage the bio-based resin and DLC coating.

Solar Charging:

To maintain optimal battery performance, ensure the watch is regularly exposed to light. Avoid prolonged storage in dark places. The watch features a power saving function that automatically enters a sleep state when left in the dark to conserve energy.

6. Troubleshooting

Display Readability in Dark Conditions:

The negative display of this model may appear slightly harder to read in very dim light compared to a positive display. Utilize the Super Illuminator backlight (LIGHT button) for enhanced visibility in such situations. Ensure the auto-light function is enabled if you prefer the backlight to activate automatically with wrist tilt.

Time Synchronization Issues:

If the watch fails to synchronize time, ensure it is placed in an area with good radio signal reception, preferably near a window, especially overnight. Avoid areas with strong electromagnetic interference. Manual time reception can be attempted if automatic reception consistently fails.

Low Power Indicator:

If the power indicator shows a low charge, expose the watch to bright light for an extended period. The watch may enter a power-saving mode or some functions might be restricted until sufficient charge is accumulated.
