5. Cleaning and Care

Proper cleaning and care of your breast pump parts are crucial for hygiene and optimal performance.

5.1 Parts to Clean After Each Use

All parts that come into contact with breast milk (breast shields, connectors, membranes, bottles, lids) must be cleaned after each use.

  1. Disassemble: Separate all parts that came into contact with milk.
  2. Rinse: Rinse parts under cool running water to remove milk residue.
  3. Wash: Wash parts in warm, soapy water using a mild dish soap. Use a clean brush dedicated for feeding equipment.
  4. Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse all parts thoroughly under running water.
  5. Air Dry: Place parts on a clean paper towel or drying rack and allow them to air dry completely. Do not use a cloth towel to dry, as this can transfer germs.

5.2 Sanitizing

Sanitize parts at least once a day, especially for infants younger than 3 months, those with weakened immune systems, or those born prematurely.

5.3 Pump Unit and Tubing

The pump unit and tubing do not come into contact with breast milk and therefore do not require washing or sanitizing. If the tubing becomes visibly dirty or moldy, it should be replaced. Wipe the pump unit with a clean, damp cloth as needed.
