3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

The camera requires 8 AA batteries for operation. For best performance and extended battery life (up to 8 months in standby), it is recommended to use high-quality alkaline or rechargeable lithium AA batteries.

  1. Open the camera's latch on the side to access the battery compartment.
  2. Insert 8 AA batteries according to the polarity indicators (+/-) inside the compartment.
  3. Close the battery compartment securely.

3.2 Micro SD Card Installation

A 64GB Micro SD card is included. The camera supports Micro SD cards up to 128GB.

  1. Locate the Micro SD card slot, typically near the battery compartment or on the side of the camera.
  2. Insert the Micro SD card with the gold contacts facing down until it clicks into place.
  3. To remove, gently push the card in until it springs out.

3.3 App Installation (TrailCam Mobile)

The 'TrailCam Mobile' app is essential for controlling the camera via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

  1. Scan the QR code in the included instruction manual or search for 'TrailCam Mobile' in your smartphone's app store (iOS App Store or Google Play Store).
  2. Download and install the app.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to grant necessary permissions.

3.4 Mounting the Camera

The camera can be mounted using the provided strap or a tripod (not included).

  1. Thread the mounting strap through the slots on the back of the camera.
  2. Securely fasten the camera to a tree or pole at the desired height and angle. Ensure the camera is stable and not prone to movement from wind.
  3. Alternatively, use the tripod screw mount on the bottom of the camera to attach it to a compatible tripod or mounting post.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On/Off and Mode Selection

The camera typically has a switch for different modes:

  • OFF: Powers off the camera.
  • TEST: Allows you to access the menu, view captured media, and adjust settings. The PIR sensor is active in this mode for testing detection.
  • ON: Activates the camera for automatic recording based on motion detection. The screen will turn off after a few seconds to conserve power.

4.2 Connecting via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

The camera uses Bluetooth to initiate a Wi-Fi connection for faster data transfer.

  1. Ensure the camera is in TEST mode or ON mode (some models allow Wi-Fi activation from ON).
  2. Open the 'TrailCam Mobile' app on your smartphone.
  3. Tap 'Connect Device' or similar option in the app. The app will use Bluetooth to find and connect to the camera, then automatically switch to Wi-Fi.
  4. Once connected, you can view live feed, change settings, and download photos/videos.

4.3 Adjusting Settings

Settings can be adjusted directly on the camera in TEST mode or more conveniently via the 'TrailCam Mobile' app.

  • Photo/Video Mode: Select whether the camera captures photos, videos, or both.
  • Resolution: Set photo resolution (e.g., 48MP, 32MP) and video resolution (e.g., 4K, 1296P).
  • Trigger Interval: Define the delay between consecutive captures after a trigger event.
  • PIR Sensitivity: Adjust the sensitivity of the motion sensors. High for small animals, low for larger ones or to reduce false triggers. You can also turn off side PIRs to narrow the detection area.
  • Time Lapse: Set the camera to capture images at fixed intervals regardless of motion.
  • Date/Time Stamp: Enable or disable the date and time overlay on images/videos.

4.4 Viewing and Downloading Media

Media can be accessed via the app or by removing the SD card.

  • Via App: Connect to the camera using the 'TrailCam Mobile' app. Navigate to the gallery or playback section to view thumbnails and download full-resolution files to your smartphone.
  • Via SD Card: Power off the camera, remove the Micro SD card, and insert it into a computer's card reader. You can then access and transfer files like any other storage device.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

  • Lens: Gently wipe the camera lens with a soft, lint-free cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a lens cleaning solution.
  • PIR Sensors: If the PIR lens is dirty, lightly pick away any dirt. Do not wipe vigorously as it may cause scratches. Minor scratches typically do not affect operation.
  • Housing: Wipe the camera body with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals.

5.2 Battery Management

Regularly check battery levels, especially before deploying the camera for extended periods. Replace all batteries simultaneously to ensure consistent power supply.

5.3 Storage

When not in use, store the camera in a cool, dry place. Remove batteries if storing for a long duration to prevent leakage.
