Please read and follow these safety instructions carefully to prevent injury or damage:

  • Always unplug the filter from the power outlet before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or when handling the filter or pump.
  • Ensure your hands are dry when plugging or unplugging the power cord.
  • Do not operate the filter if the power cord or plug is damaged.
  • This appliance is for indoor use only. Do not use it in outdoor environments.
  • Ensure the filter is securely mounted on the aquarium before operation.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not allow the pump to run dry without water, as this can cause damage.
  • The filter is suitable for fish tanks or aquariums with no rims, and the thickness of the fish tank should not exceed 12mm.

5. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to set up and install your VAYINATO SOBO AQ-18H filter:

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all items from the packaging and verify against the 'Package Contents' list.
  2. Assemble Filter Media: Place the filter sponges, filter balls, and ceramic rings into their respective compartments within the filter unit. Refer to Figure 3 for guidance on the multi-layer filtration system.
  3. Connect Water Pump: Attach the water pipe to the water pump. Ensure a secure connection.
  4. Position Pump: Place the water pump inside the aquarium, ensuring it is fully submerged. The pump typically attaches to the inside wall of the tank with suction cups.
  5. Mount Filter Unit: Hang the main filter unit on the rim of your aquarium. Ensure it is stable and level. The filter is designed for rimless tanks or tanks with a rim thickness not exceeding 12mm.
  6. Connect Water Pipe: Route the water pipe from the submerged pump to the inlet of the filter unit. Ensure the pipe is not kinked and allows for smooth water flow.
  7. Fill Aquarium: Ensure your aquarium is filled with water to the appropriate level, covering the water pump and allowing the filter to draw water effectively.
  8. Power On: Once all connections are secure and the pump is submerged, plug the filter into a suitable power outlet. The filter should begin operating, drawing water from the tank, passing it through the media, and returning it via the waterfall outlet.

6. Operation

Once installed and powered on, the filter will continuously draw water from the aquarium, process it through the multi-layer media, and return clean, oxygenated water via the waterfall outlet.

  • Water Flow: The filter creates a waterfall effect, which aids in surface agitation and oxygen exchange.
  • Oxygenation: The integrated water roller enhances oxygen dissolution into the water, benefiting aquatic life.
  • Lid Function: Keep the lid closed during operation to prevent dust from entering the filter and to minimize water splashing, which also helps prevent mosquito breeding.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is essential for the optimal performance and longevity of your filter.

  1. Weekly Check: Visually inspect the filter for any blockages or reduced water flow. Ensure the water pump is operating correctly.
  2. Filter Media Cleaning/Replacement (Monthly/Bi-monthly):
    • Unplug the filter from the power outlet.
    • Carefully remove the filter unit from the aquarium.
    • Open the lid and remove the filter media (sponges, ceramic rings, filter balls).
    • Rinse the sponges and other media in old aquarium water (removed during a water change) to preserve beneficial bacteria. Do not use tap water directly, as chlorine can kill beneficial bacteria.
    • Replace heavily soiled or degraded filter media as needed.
    • Clean the inside of the filter unit with a soft brush and aquarium water.
    • Reassemble the filter media and unit, then reinstall on the aquarium.
  3. Water Pump Cleaning (Quarterly):
    • Unplug the filter and remove the pump from the aquarium.
    • Disassemble the pump impeller cover and impeller.
    • Clean any debris, algae, or mineral buildup from the impeller and its housing using a small brush.
    • Reassemble the pump and reinstall it in the aquarium.
  4. Lid Cleaning: Periodically wipe down the dust cover to keep it clean and effective in preventing debris and splashes.
