Operating Instructions

Data Transfer

Once connected, the KEXIN External SSD will appear as an external drive on your device. You can drag and drop files, copy and paste, or use your device's file management system to transfer data to and from the SSD.

  • For optimal performance, ensure your device supports USB 3.1 or higher.
  • The SSD is pre-formatted and ready for use. If reformatting is required, use a file system compatible with your operating system (e.g., exFAT for broad compatibility).

Maintenance

  • Safe Ejection: Always safely eject the SSD from your device before disconnecting to prevent data corruption.
  • Physical Care: While durable, avoid dropping the SSD or exposing it to extreme temperatures or moisture. Use the provided silicone shell for added protection.
  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the SSD. Do not use liquid cleaners.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the KEXIN official website for any available firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and compatibility.

Troubleshooting

SSD Not Recognized by Device

  • Check Connections: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the SSD and your device. Try a different USB port.
  • Verify Cable/Adapter: Ensure you are using the correct cable and adapter for your device's port type (USB-A or USB-C).
  • Restart Device: Sometimes a simple restart of your computer or phone can resolve recognition issues.
  • Check Disk Management (Windows) / Disk Utility (Mac):
    • Windows: Right-click "This PC" > "Manage" > "Disk Management". Look for the SSD. If it appears but is unallocated, you may need to initialize and format it (this will erase all data).
    • Mac: Go to "Applications" > "Utilities" > "Disk Utility". Check if the SSD is listed.
  • Test on Another Device: Connect the SSD to a different computer or compatible device to determine if the issue is with the SSD or the original device.

Slow Data Transfer Speeds

  • USB Port Type: Ensure you are connected to a USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 port on your device. Older USB 2.0 ports will result in significantly slower speeds.
  • Cable Quality: Use the provided high-quality USB cable. Lower quality or longer cables can impact transfer speeds.
  • File Size/Type: Transferring many small files can be slower than transferring a few large files, even at the same total data size.
  • Device Performance: The speed of your host device's internal storage and processor can also affect transfer rates.

SSD Gets Warm During Use

It is normal for the SSD to become warm during extended periods of high-speed data transfer. The aluminum casing is designed to dissipate heat efficiently. If the device becomes excessively hot or exhibits unusual behavior, disconnect it and contact customer support.
