Introduction
Thank you for choosing the Mainstays Whistling Tea Kettle. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and care of your new tea kettle. Please read these instructions thoroughly before first use and retain them for future reference.
Important Safety Instructions
- Always fill the kettle with water before placing it on a heat source.
- Do not overfill the kettle. Leave adequate space for boiling water to prevent overflow.
- Use caution when handling the hot kettle. Always use the heat-resistant handle.
- Keep children and pets away from the stovetop and hot kettle.
- Do not leave the kettle unattended while heating.
- Ensure the lid is securely in place during boiling to allow the whistle to function correctly.
- Avoid touching hot surfaces. Use oven mitts or a cloth if necessary.
- Do not place the kettle in a microwave oven or conventional oven.
- This kettle is designed for boiling water only. Do not use it for heating other liquids or food.
- If the kettle boils dry, remove it from the heat source immediately and allow it to cool completely before refilling.
Setup and First Use
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the kettle from its packaging. Inspect for any damage.
- Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the inside of the kettle with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- First Boil (Optional but Recommended): Fill the kettle with clean water to just below the spout. Bring to a boil, then discard the water. This helps remove any manufacturing residues.

Operating Instructions
- Fill the Kettle: Open the lid and fill the kettle with fresh water. Do not fill above the maximum fill line (typically located just below the spout opening) to prevent boiling over. The kettle has a 1.8-quart capacity.
- Secure the Lid: Ensure the lid is securely placed on the kettle. This is crucial for the whistle to function.
- Place on Stovetop: Place the kettle on a suitable heat source (gas, electric, or induction stovetop). Use a burner size appropriate for the kettle's base.
- Heat Water: Turn on the heat to a medium-high setting. Avoid excessively high heat, which can damage the kettle or cause water to boil over too quickly.
- Listen for Whistle: As the water boils, steam will escape through the spout, activating the whistle. The whistle indicates that the water has reached boiling point.
- Pouring: Once the whistle sounds, turn off the heat. Carefully grasp the heat-resistant handle. Use the spout lever to open the spout cover and pour the hot water slowly and carefully into your cup or container.
- Cool Down: Allow the kettle to cool down before refilling or cleaning.

Care and Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, allow the kettle to cool. Wash the interior and exterior with warm, soapy water and a soft sponge or cloth. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately to prevent water spots.
- Descaling: Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) may build up inside the kettle, especially in hard water areas. To descale:
- Fill the kettle with a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water.
- Bring the solution to a boil and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
- Discard the solution, rinse the kettle thoroughly several times with fresh water.
- For stubborn deposits, repeat the process or gently scrub with a non-abrasive brush.
- Storage: Store the kettle in a dry place when not in use.
- Do Not Use Abrasives: Avoid using abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the stainless steel finish.
