2. Safety Instructions
Always prioritize safety when operating power tools. Read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before using the Supstable S5 Extend.
General Safety
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, sturdy gloves, and non-slip footwear. A hard hat is recommended for overhead cutting.
- Work Area: Keep the work area clear of bystanders, children, and pets. Ensure good lighting and a stable footing.
- Tool Inspection: Before each use, inspect the chainsaw for any damage, loose parts, or worn components. Do not operate if damaged.
- Firm Grip: Always hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands during operation.
- Avoid Kickback: Be aware of kickback, which can occur when the moving chain contacts an object at the upper quadrant of the guide bar nose. Maintain control and avoid cutting with the tip of the bar.
- Environmental Conditions: Do not operate in wet conditions or near flammable liquids or gases.
Battery Safety
- Use only original Supstable batteries and chargers.
- Charge batteries in a well-ventilated area, away from flammable materials.
- Do not expose batteries to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight.
- Remove the battery from the tool when not in use, during maintenance, or when changing accessories.
Telescopic Pole Saw Specific Safety
- Ensure the telescopic pole is securely locked at the desired length before use.
- Maintain proper balance and a stable stance. Do not overreach.
- Be aware of falling branches and clear the area below the cutting zone.
- Avoid contact with power lines. Maintain a safe distance from all electrical hazards.

4. Setup
4.1 Charging the Batteries
- Connect the charger to a standard power outlet.
- Insert the 21V 4.0 Ah battery into the charger.
- The indicator light on the charger will show the charging status. Once fully charged, remove the battery.
4.2 Installing the Chain and Guide Bar
- Ensure the battery is removed from the chainsaw head before installation.
- Place the chain around the guide bar, ensuring the cutting edges of the chain teeth are facing the correct direction (refer to the diagram in your quick start guide if unsure).
- Align the guide bar and chain with the mounting studs on the chainsaw head.
- Install the side cover and tighten the retaining knob or screws.
- Adjust the chain tension: The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still allow for manual movement around the bar without excessive slack.
4.3 Filling the Oil Reservoir
- Locate the oil reservoir cap on the chainsaw head.
- Unscrew the cap and fill the reservoir with appropriate chain lubricant (not included).
- Replace the cap securely. The automatic lubrication system will dispense oil during operation.
4.4 Assembling the Telescopic Pole
- Attach the mini chainsaw head to the telescopic pole connector. Ensure it clicks securely into place.
- Attach the auxiliary handle to the pole for improved grip and control.
- Extend the pole to the desired length by loosening the locking collar, pulling the pole section, and then securely tightening the collar.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Starting and Stopping
- Insert a fully charged battery into the tool.
- To start, press and hold the safety lock button (usually located on the side of the handle).
- While holding the safety lock, squeeze the trigger switch to activate the chainsaw.
- Release the trigger switch to stop the chainsaw. The safety lock will automatically reset.
5.2 Using as a Mini Chainsaw
- Ensure the chainsaw head is detached from the telescopic pole for compact use.
- Hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands, maintaining a balanced stance.
- Allow the chain to reach full speed before engaging the wood.
- Apply steady, even pressure. Do not force the saw through the material. Let the saw do the work.
- For thicker branches, make a relief cut on the underside first to prevent pinching.

Figure 5.1: Operating the Supstable S5 Extend in mini chainsaw mode.
5.3 Using as a Telescopic Pole Saw
- Ensure the chainsaw head is securely attached to the telescopic pole and the pole is locked at the desired length.
- Maintain a safe distance from the cutting area and ensure no one is directly beneath the branch being cut.
- Use a stable stance, keeping your feet shoulder-width apart.
- Start the saw and allow the chain to reach full speed.
- Position the saw on the branch, making a relief cut on the underside first to prevent the branch from splitting or pinching the blade.
- Complete the cut from the top.
- Be mindful of the branch's weight and direction of fall.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Supstable S5 Extend.
6.1 Chain Lubrication
The S5 Extend features an automatic chain lubrication system. Regularly check the oil level in the reservoir and refill as needed with appropriate chain oil. Proper lubrication is crucial for smooth operation and to prevent premature wear of the chain and guide bar.

Figure 6.1: Automatic chain lubrication system.
6.2 Chain Tension Adjustment
Check chain tension frequently, especially during the first few hours of use. A properly tensioned chain should not sag on the underside of the guide bar but should still be able to be pulled around the guide bar by hand. Refer to Section 4.2 for adjustment steps.
6.3 Chain Sharpening and Replacement
A dull chain will reduce cutting efficiency, increase motor strain, and heighten the risk of kickback. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it with a new one when it becomes too dull or damaged. Always use the correct replacement chain for your 8-inch guide bar.
6.4 Cleaning and Storage
After each use:
- Remove the battery.
- Clean the chainsaw body, guide bar, and chain with a brush or cloth to remove sawdust and debris.
- Ensure ventilation slots are clear.
- Store the tool and batteries in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
- For long-term storage, ensure batteries are partially charged (around 50%) to prolong their lifespan.
