Setup and Installation

Proper measurement and preparation of your door opening are crucial for a successful installation. Refer to the detailed instructions provided with your storm door for specific steps.

1. Measure Your Door Opening

Accurately measure the width and height of your existing door frame opening. Take three width measurements (top, middle, bottom) and use the smallest dimension. Measure the vertical height from the top of the opening to the threshold.

Before installation, accurately measure your door opening. Measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom, and the height from top to bottom. Use the smallest width measurement. Refer to the provided table to select the correct storm door size based on your measurements.

2. Prepare the Opening

Ensure the door frame opening is clean, level, and plumb. Remove any obstructions or old weatherstripping.

3. Install Hinges and Hang Door

Attach the hinges to the storm door frame and then to your existing door frame. Carefully lift and position the storm door into the opening, securing it with the provided fasteners. The door features universal hinging, allowing it to be installed for left or right-hand operation.

4. Install Handle and Latch

Assemble and install the handle set and latch mechanism according to the instructions. Test the latch for smooth operation.

5. Install Door Closer(s) and Weatherstripping

Attach and adjust the door closer(s) to ensure the door closes smoothly and securely. Apply weatherstripping around the perimeter of the door frame to seal against drafts.

Operating Instructions

Main Door Operation

To open the storm door, depress the thumb latch on the handle and pull the door open. To close, simply push the door shut; the door closer will gently pull it into the closed position. Ensure the latch engages fully.

Retractable Screen

The retractable screen is integrated into the door frame. To deploy the screen for ventilation, locate the screen pull tab and gently pull the screen down. To retract, push the screen back up into its housing. Ensure the screen moves smoothly without obstruction.

Built-in Pet Door

The pet door allows small to large pets to pass through. It includes a secure closing panel for controlled access.

  • To allow pet access: Slide the secure closing panel upwards or to the side, depending on its design, to open the pet door flap.
  • To restrict pet access: Slide the secure closing panel back into its closed position, covering the pet door flap. Ensure it is fully engaged to prevent pets from passing through.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Glass: Use a mild glass cleaner and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners that may scratch the glass.
  • Cleaning the Frame: Wipe the aluminum frame with a damp cloth and mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a silicone-based lubricant to hinges and the door closer piston for smooth operation.
  • Weatherstripping: Inspect weatherstripping annually for wear or damage. Replace if necessary to maintain an effective seal.
  • Pet Door: Keep the pet door flap and surrounding area clean. Check the secure closing panel for proper function.

Troubleshooting

  • Door does not close completely: Check the door closer adjustment. Ensure hinges are tight and the door frame is plumb.
  • Door is difficult to open or close: Inspect hinges for binding or damage. Lubricate moving parts. Check for obstructions in the door path.
  • Drafts around the door: Inspect weatherstripping for gaps or damage. Adjust or replace as needed.
  • Pet door flap not sealing: Check for debris or obstructions around the flap. Ensure the secure closing panel is properly aligned and engaged.
