3.2 Setting Date and Time (Windows & Mac)

To ensure your recordings have accurate timestamps, it is important to synchronize the recorder's date and time with your computer.

  1. Ensure the voice recorder is OFF before connecting it to your computer.
  2. Connect the recorder to your Windows or Mac computer using the provided USB-C data cable.
  3. Locate the recorder's drive on your computer (e.g., 'USB DISK').
  4. Open the file named [2159-RECSET].txt or similar.
  5. Edit the 'Time' parameter (e.g., Time:YYYYMMDDHHMMSS) to reflect the current date and time. For example, if the current date is July 30, 2024, at 12:00:00, you would change 20240308094530 to 20240730120000.
  6. Save the file and safely eject the recorder from your computer.

4.1 One-Touch Recording

The Vandlion V15 offers simple one-touch operation for starting and saving recordings.

  1. To start recording, slide the ON/OFF switch to the ON position. The red indicator light will blink briefly and then turn off, indicating that recording has started.

4.2 Voice Activated Recording (VOR)

The voice activation feature allows the recorder to start and stop recording automatically based on sound detection, saving memory and battery life.

  1. Connect the recorder to your computer (ensure it's OFF first).
  2. Open the [2159-RECSET].txt file.
  3. Locate the 'Vor' parameter. Change Vor:0 (disabled) to Vor:1 (enabled). You can adjust the sensitivity from 1 to 7, with 1 being the least sensitive and 7 the most. A setting of 1 is generally recommended.
  4. Save the file and safely eject the recorder.
  5. To use VOR, slide the ON/OFF switch to ON. The device will now only record when sound is detected.

Note: Voice activated recording may miss very subtle sounds. It is not recommended for critical recordings where every sound must be captured.

5. Maintenance

  • Keep the device dry and away from extreme temperatures.
  • Clean the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners.
  • Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts.
  • Regularly back up your recordings to a computer to prevent data loss.
  • The device automatically saves recordings before the battery runs out, but it's good practice to save manually for important audio.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Cannot Connect to Computer / Read Data

If you are experiencing issues connecting the recorder to your computer or reading data:

  1. Ensure the recorder is OFF before connecting it to the computer.
  2. Use the original data cable provided with the recorder. Some charging cables may not support data transfer.
  3. If using a desktop computer, connect the recorder to a USB port on the back of the computer. Front USB ports may have unstable power supply.
  4. Do not format the recorder on your computer. The memory format supports only FAT32. Formatting to exFAT/NTFS/APFS will cause incompatibility issues.

6.2 Voice Activated Recording Issues

If voice activated recording is not working as expected (e.g., overlapping recordings):

  1. Adjust the VOR sensitivity setting in the [2159-RECSET].txt file. A lower sensitivity (e.g., 1) might be more suitable for environments with background noise.
  2. Ensure the recorder is placed in an optimal position to capture the desired sounds without picking up excessive background noise.

6.3 Playback Issues

If your player cannot open the recording files:

  1. The recording files are in WAV format. Download a media player that supports WAV files (most standard players do).
