4. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to set up your MEDAS Sump Pump:

  1. Choose the Right Adapter:

Select the appropriate hose adapter based on your hose size (3/4-inch NPT, 1-inch, 1-1/2-inch). The multi-hose adapter can be cut to fit different sizes. For standard garden hoses, use the 3/4-inch NPT threaded adapter.

  2. Install Check Valve (Optional but Recommended):

If using the multi-size adapter, install the check valve to prevent water from flowing back into the pump. Ensure the arrow mark on the check valve points in the direction of water flow (away from the pump). Note: Do not put the check valve into the single adapter.

  3. Attach Hose:

Securely attach your discharge hose to the chosen adapter. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.

  4. Position the Pump:

Place the pump in the area to be drained. Ensure the pump is stable and fully submerged in water before connecting to power. The pump activates when the water level reaches approximately 4/5 inches (20mm).

Figure 4.2: The pump's activation level, demonstrating its ability to start pumping at a low water height of 4/5 inches.

  5. Connect to Power:

Plug the 10ft power cord into a grounded 110V/60Hz GFCI-protected outlet. The pump will begin operating automatically once the water level reaches the activation point.

5. Operating Instructions

The MEDAS Sump Pump is designed for automatic operation once connected to power and submerged in water.

  • Ensure the discharge hose is directed to a suitable drainage area, away from the area being drained.
  • The pump will automatically start when the water level reaches approximately 4/5 inches (20mm) and continue to pump until the water level is reduced to 0.04 inches (1mm).
  • Monitor the pump during operation to ensure proper function and to prevent it from running dry for extended periods.
  • For continuous operation, ensure the pump remains submerged.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your pump.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the pump's intake screen and impeller area to remove any debris that may obstruct water flow. Disconnect power before cleaning.
  • Storage: If storing the pump for an extended period, clean it thoroughly, drain all water, and store it in a dry, frost-free location.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the power cord for any signs of damage. Do not use the pump if the cord is damaged.
  • The oil-free motor design requires no lubrication.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pump does not start or operate. No power; clogged intake; water level too low.Check power connection and GFCI. Clean intake screen. Ensure water level is above 4/5 inches (20mm).
Pump runs but no water is discharged.Hose kinked or blocked; airlock; impeller clogged.Check hose for kinks/blockages. Briefly lift and lower pump to release airlock. Clean impeller area.
Reduced flow rate.Partial clog; hose too small or too long; excessive lift height.Clean pump. Use appropriate hose size. Ensure lift height is within specifications.
Pump cycles on and off frequently.Water level fluctuating; check valve issue.Ensure stable water level. Check check valve for proper installation and function.
