3. Product Overview
The UGREEN Ethernet Switch is designed for optimal performance and ease of use. Below is an overview of its components, ports, and indicators.

Figure 3.1: Front View of the Switch
3.1 Ports and Indicators
- 5 x 2.5G Ethernet Ports (RJ45): These ports support auto-negotiation for network speeds of 10Mbps, 100Mbps, 1Gbps, and 2.5Gbps, compliant with IEEE 802.3/u/x/ab/bz standards.
- 1 x 10G SFP+ Port: This port supports auto-adaptation to network speeds of 1Gbps and 10Gbps, compliant with IEEE 802.3z/ae and SFF-8472/8431/8432 standards.
- LED Indicators: Bi-color port indicators show real-time link status. Yellow indicates 10/100/1000Mbps, and Green indicates 2.5Gbps. For the SFP+ port, Yellow indicates 1/2.5Gbps, and Green indicates 10Gbps.
- Mode Switch: A physical switch on the front panel allows selection between three working modes: Standard, VLAN, and Link Aggregation.
- DC 12V Power Port: Located at the rear for connecting the included power adapter.
- Grounding Terminal: For enhanced safety and lightning protection.

3.2 Design Features
- Metal Casing: Constructed from high-quality metal for durability and efficient heat dissipation. Each port features a metal heatsink and thermal conductive silicone design.
- Cooling Grille: A large cooling grille on the side further enhances heat dissipation, ensuring stable operation without a fan.
- 4KV Lightning Protection: Internal high-resistance lightning protection circuits reduce the impact of thunderstorms, improving network stability and security.
- Wall-Mountable Design: Supports various installation methods, including desktop placement or wall mounting.

4. Setup
Follow these steps to set up your UGREEN Ethernet Switch:
- Placement: Choose a stable, flat surface for the switch, or mount it on a wall using appropriate hardware (not included). Ensure adequate ventilation around the device.
- Power Connection: Connect the included DC 12V power adapter to the power port on the rear of the switch. Plug the other end of the adapter into a standard electrical outlet.
- Grounding (Optional but Recommended): For enhanced lightning protection, connect a grounding wire (not included) to the grounding terminal on the rear of the switch and to a proper ground source.
- Connect Devices: Use standard Ethernet cables (Cat5e or higher recommended for 2.5G/10G speeds) to connect your network devices (e.g., computers, NAS, routers, gaming consoles) to the RJ45 ports (1-5) on the front of the switch.
- Connect SFP+ Module (if applicable): If you are using the 10G SFP+ port, insert a compatible SFP+ transceiver module (not included) into the SFP+ slot (Port 6). Then, connect your 10G device or network backbone to the SFP+ module using the appropriate fiber optic or DAC cable.
- Verify Connection: Once devices are connected, observe the LED indicators on the front panel. A lit LED indicates a successful link, and blinking indicates activity. The color of the LED will indicate the connection speed (Yellow for 10/100/1000Mbps, Green for 2.5Gbps/10Gbps).
The switch is plug-and-play and does not require any software configuration for basic operation.
5. Operating Modes
The UGREEN Ethernet Switch features a physical mode switch on the front panel, allowing you to select between three distinct working modes to suit your network requirements.

Figure 5.1: Mode Switch
5.1 Standard Mode
In Standard mode, all ports operate as a typical unmanaged switch. Each port automatically negotiates and connects efficiently, allowing all connected devices to communicate freely with each other and with the wider network (e.g., router, internet).

Figure 5.2: Standard Mode Network Diagram
5.2 VLAN Mode (Port Isolation)
When VLAN mode is selected, ports 1-4 are isolated from each other. This means devices connected to ports 1, 2, 3, and 4 cannot directly communicate with each other. However, these isolated ports can still communicate with devices connected to ports 5 or 6 (the SFP+ port). This feature helps in creating a virtual local network or preventing network storms by segmenting traffic, particularly useful for security cameras or guest networks. Note that this is a non-managed port isolation feature, not a full 802.1Q VLAN implementation.

Figure 5.3: VLAN Mode Network Diagram
5.3 Link Aggregation Mode
In Link Aggregation mode, ports 4 and 5 are grouped together to form a single logical link. This allows for increased bandwidth and network redundancy for devices that support Link Aggregation (e.g., some NAS devices with dual Ethernet ports). By combining the bandwidth of two 2.5G ports, you can achieve up to 5Gbps throughput to a single device, enhancing data transfer speeds and providing a backup link in case one port fails.

Figure 5.4: Link Aggregation Mode Network Diagram
To change the operating mode, simply slide the physical switch to the desired position. No reboot is typically required for the change to take effect.
6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your UGREEN Ethernet Switch:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the switch. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol sprays.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the cooling grilles are not obstructed to allow for proper heat dissipation. Avoid placing the switch in enclosed spaces without airflow.
- Environment: Keep the switch away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive moisture. Operate within the recommended temperature and humidity ranges.
- Cable Management: Organize network cables to prevent tangles and reduce strain on the ports. Cable labels are included in the package to facilitate management.
- Power Supply: Only use the original power adapter provided with the switch.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your UGREEN Ethernet Switch, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power/LEDs off | Power adapter not connected or faulty; power outlet issue. | Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the switch and a working power outlet. Try a different outlet. |
| No link light for a connected device | Ethernet cable faulty or improperly connected; device not powered on or faulty; incorrect port. | Check cable connections at both ends. Try a different Ethernet cable. Ensure the connected device is powered on and functioning. Try a different port on the switch. |
| Slow network speed | Cable quality (e.g., Cat5 for 2.5G); device network adapter limitation; mode setting. | Ensure you are using Cat5e or higher cables for 2.5G/10G connections. Verify your device's network adapter supports the desired speed. Check the mode switch setting (e.g., if in VLAN mode, ensure communication path is correct). |
| Devices cannot communicate in VLAN mode | Misunderstanding of VLAN mode functionality. | Remember that in VLAN mode, ports 1-4 are isolated from each other. They can only communicate with devices on ports 5 or 6. If you need full communication between all ports, switch to Standard mode. |
| Link Aggregation not working | Connected device does not support Link Aggregation or is not configured correctly. | Ensure the device connected to ports 4 and 5 supports Link Aggregation and is configured properly on the device's side. |
If the problem persists after trying these solutions, please contact UGREEN customer support for further assistance.
