4. Installation Guide
4.1 Safety Precautions
- Ensure the vehicle's ignition is off and the battery is disconnected before starting installation to prevent electrical shock or damage.
- Allow the engine to cool completely before working on the cooling system to avoid burns from hot coolant or engine components.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves and eye protection.
- Consult a professional if you are unsure about any part of the installation process.
4.2 Mounting the Gauge
- Select a suitable location on your dashboard or panel for the gauge. Ensure it is visible and does not obstruct driving.
- Drill a 52mm (2-1/16 inch) diameter hole in the chosen mounting surface.
- Insert the gauge into the drilled hole from the front.
- Secure the gauge from the rear using the provided mounting bracket and nuts. Tighten firmly but do not overtighten.
4.3 Wiring Diagram
The gauge requires three primary connections: power, ground, and signal from the temperature sender unit. Refer to the diagram below for typical wiring.

Figure 4.1: Front view of the YIHETOP Water Coolant Temperature Gauge. The rear of the gauge typically features screw terminals or spade connectors for electrical connections. Consult your vehicle's wiring diagram for specific sender unit location and wiring colors.
- Power (12V): Connect to a switched 12V ignition source. This ensures the gauge is powered only when the vehicle is on.
- Ground: Connect to a reliable chassis ground point.
- Signal: Connect to the output wire of your coolant temperature sender unit. Ensure the sender unit is compatible with VDO standards for accurate readings.
Note: If your vehicle does not have a compatible temperature sender unit, one may need to be purchased and installed separately.
5. Operating Instructions
Once properly installed and wired, the YIHETOP Water Coolant Temperature Gauge will activate when the vehicle's ignition is turned on. The red needle will indicate the current coolant temperature in degrees Celsius.
- Normal Operating Range: For most engines, the normal operating temperature typically falls between 80℃ and 100℃. Consult your vehicle's manufacturer specifications for the exact normal operating range.
- High Temperature Warning: Temperatures consistently above 100℃-105℃ may indicate an overheating condition. If the needle approaches or enters the red zone (above 100℃-110℃), pull over safely and investigate the cause of overheating.
- Low Temperature Readings: If the gauge consistently reads very low temperatures after the engine has warmed up, it could indicate a faulty thermostat or sender unit, or an issue with the gauge's wiring.
6. Maintenance
The YIHETOP Water Coolant Temperature Gauge is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance.
- Cleaning: Wipe the gauge face with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the lens or markings.
- Connections: Periodically check all electrical connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
- Sender Unit: Ensure the coolant temperature sender unit is clean and properly seated in the engine block or radiator hose.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Gauge does not light up or show any reading. | No power, faulty ground, blown fuse. | Check 12V power connection, verify ground connection, inspect vehicle's fuse box. |
| Gauge reads consistently high or low. | Incorrect sender unit, faulty sender unit, wiring issue, air in cooling system. | Ensure sender unit is compatible and functioning. Check signal wire for damage. Bleed cooling system if necessary. |
| Gauge needle fluctuates erratically. | Loose wiring connection, faulty sender unit, electrical interference. | Inspect all wiring connections for tightness. Test or replace sender unit. Ensure proper grounding. |
