2. Safety Instructions

Always observe basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Keep this manual handy for quick reference.

General Power Tool Safety

  • Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Electrical Safety: Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces.
  • Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection. Use hearing protection when operating the tool for extended periods. Wear a dust mask if operations create dust. Dress properly; avoid loose clothing or jewelry.
  • Tool Use and Care: Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.

Specific Angle Grinder Safety

  • Guarding: Always ensure the guard is properly positioned and secured before operation.
  • Accessory Selection: Only use accessories that are specifically designed for this angle grinder and rated for at least the tool's maximum RPM.
  • Handling: Hold the tool firmly with both hands. Be aware of kickback, especially when cutting or grinding edges.
  • Sparks: Grinding operations produce sparks. Ensure no flammable materials are nearby.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the tool's ventilation slots are clear to prevent overheating.

4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking

  1. Carefully remove the angle grinder and all accessories from the packaging.
  2. Inspect the tool for any damage that may have occurred during shipping. Do not operate a damaged tool.
  3. Ensure all components listed in the packaging contents are present.

4.2 Attaching the Side Handle

The side handle can be screwed into either side of the gear housing for left or right-handed operation. Ensure it is tightened securely before use.

4.3 Installing/Changing Grinding Discs

  1. Disconnect from Power: Always unplug the tool from the power outlet before changing discs.
  2. Position Guard: Ensure the disc guard is correctly positioned to protect against sparks and debris.
  3. Engage Spindle Lock: Press and hold the spindle lock button (refer to Figure 2) to prevent the spindle from rotating.
  4. Remove Flange Nut: Use the provided wrench to loosen and remove the outer flange nut.
  5. Install Disc: Place the desired grinding or cutting disc onto the inner flange, ensuring it sits flush. The disc should be rated for the grinder's RPM.
  6. Secure Flange Nut: Re-attach and tighten the outer flange nut with the wrench while holding the spindle lock button. Do not overtighten.
  7. Release Spindle Lock: Release the spindle lock button.

4.4 Connecting to Power

Ensure the power switch is in the "OFF" position before plugging the tool into a suitable 220-240V, 50/60Hz power outlet. Verify that the power source matches the tool's specifications.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

  • To Turn On: Slide the power switch to the "ON" position. Allow the disc to reach full speed before contacting the workpiece.
  • To Turn Off: Slide the power switch to the "OFF" position. Wait for the disc to stop completely before setting the tool down.

5.2 Grinding and Cutting Techniques

  • Workpiece Security: Always secure the workpiece firmly to prevent movement during operation.
  • Angle of Approach: For grinding, hold the disc at a 15-30 degree angle to the workpiece. For cutting, hold the disc perpendicular (90 degrees) to the workpiece.
  • Pressure: Apply light, consistent pressure. Excessive pressure can reduce efficiency, damage the disc, and strain the motor.
  • Movement: Move the grinder smoothly and continuously across the workpiece. Avoid dwelling in one spot, which can cause overheating or gouging.
  • Material Considerations:
    • Metal: Use appropriate grinding or cutting discs for metal. Be mindful of sparks and hot debris.
    • Wood: Use specific wood carving or sanding attachments. Ensure proper dust extraction.

5.3 Adjustable Power Regulators

The tool features adjustable power regulators to fine-tune the speed for different applications. Adjust the setting as needed for optimal control and material compatibility. Lower speeds are generally suitable for polishing or less aggressive material removal, while higher speeds are for rapid grinding or cutting.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your angle grinder. Always disconnect the tool from the power supply before performing any maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the tool's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Use compressed air to clear dust from the ventilation slots (Exhaust Vent, Figure 2) to prevent motor overheating.
  • Disc Inspection: Before each use, inspect the grinding or cutting disc for cracks, chips, or excessive wear. Replace damaged or worn discs immediately.
  • Power Cord: Check the power cord for any cuts, fraying, or damage. Replace if necessary.
  • Carbon Brushes: The motor uses carbon brushes which wear over time. If the tool experiences reduced power or excessive sparking, the carbon brushes may need inspection and replacement. This procedure should ideally be performed by a qualified technician.
  • Storage: Store the angle grinder in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children, when not in use.
