4. Installation and Setup

4.1 Physical Installation

The physical installation of the Generic X2 Smart Electronic Lock requires careful attention to door preparation and component alignment. It is recommended to consult a professional for installation if you are unfamiliar with door hardware.

  1. Prepare the Door: Ensure your door meets the specified thickness (4-12 cm) and that the existing mortise lock body is compatible with the 6068 standard. If not, modifications may be required.
  2. Install Mortise Lock: Insert the mortise lock body into the door edge, securing it with screws.
  3. Install Front Panel: Connect the necessary cables from the front panel to the mortise lock. Position the front panel on the exterior side of the door.
  4. Install Rear Panel: Connect the cables from the rear panel to the front panel and the mortise lock. Secure the rear panel to the interior side of the door using the provided screws. Ensure all cables are properly routed and not pinched.
  5. Insert Battery: Open the battery compartment on the rear panel and insert the fully charged 7.4V lithium battery.
  6. Test Mechanical Key: Before closing the battery compartment, test the mechanical key to ensure it can unlock the door.

4.2 Initial Setup and App Connection

After physical installation, configure the lock via the mobile application.

  1. Download App: Download the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app from your mobile device's app store.
  2. Register/Login: Create an account or log in to your existing account.
  3. Add Device: In the app, select 'Add Device' and choose 'Security & Video Surveillance' > 'Smart Lock (Wi-Fi)'.
  4. Pair Lock: Follow the on-screen instructions in the app to put the lock into pairing mode. This usually involves pressing a button on the lock's interior panel or entering a specific sequence on the keypad.
  5. Connect to Wi-Fi: Enter your Wi-Fi network credentials in the app to connect the lock to your home network.
  6. Set Administrator: The first fingerprint or password registered after pairing will typically be designated as the administrator.

4.3 Adding Users (Fingerprints, Passwords, IC Cards)

Manage user access through the lock's menu or the mobile app.

  • Via Lock Menu: Access the lock's internal menu (usually by pressing '*' or 'Menu' followed by the administrator password/fingerprint). Navigate to 'User Management' to add fingerprints, passwords, or IC cards. Follow the voice prompts for each registration type.
  • Via Mobile App: In the Tuya Smart app, select your lock. Navigate to 'Member Management' or 'User Management' to add new users. You can remotely generate temporary passwords, add fingerprints (if the lock supports remote fingerprint enrollment), or register IC cards.

5. Operation

5.1 Unlocking the Door

  • Fingerprint: Place your registered finger on the fingerprint sensor. The lock will unlock upon successful recognition.
  • Password: Enter your registered password on the keypad, followed by '#'. The lock will unlock.
  • IC Card: Present your registered IC card to the card reader area on the lock. The lock will unlock.
  • Mechanical Key: Insert the mechanical key into the hidden keyhole and turn to unlock. This is primarily for emergency use.
  • Mobile App: Open the Tuya Smart app, select your lock, and tap the 'Unlock' button.

5.2 Locking the Door

  • Automatic Locking: The lock is designed to automatically lock after a set period (configurable in settings) once the door is closed.
  • Manual Locking: From the exterior, you can often press '#' or a dedicated lock button to manually lock. From the interior, turn the internal knob or press the internal lock button.
  • Double Internal Lock: Engage the double internal lock button on the interior panel for added security, preventing external access even with valid credentials (except for mechanical key).

5.3 Monitoring and Records

  • Unlock Records: View a history of unlock events (method, user, timestamp) on the lock's screen or through the mobile app.
  • Remote Monitoring: The integrated camera allows you to view who is at your door via the mobile app. The lock can also send photos to your app upon certain events (e.g., doorbell press, failed access attempts).

6. Maintenance

6.1 Battery Management

  • Charging: The lock uses a rechargeable lithium battery. When the battery level is low, the lock will provide a low battery warning (audible and/or visual). Connect the lock to a power source using the provided charging cable to recharge the battery. A full charge typically lasts about 3 months.
  • Emergency Power: In case the battery completely depletes, you can use a mechanical key or connect an external power bank to the emergency power port (usually a Micro USB or Type-C port) to temporarily power the lock and gain access.

6.2 Cleaning

Clean the lock's exterior surfaces, including the keypad and fingerprint sensor, with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or excessive moisture, as these can damage the electronic components or finish.

6.3 Mechanical Key

Keep the mechanical keys in a safe and accessible location outside the property. These keys are crucial for emergency access if electronic methods fail or the battery is completely drained.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Generic X2 Smart Electronic Lock, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Lock does not respond: Check the battery level. If low, recharge or use emergency power. Ensure the lock is properly installed and all connections are secure.
  • Fingerprint not recognized: Ensure your finger is clean and dry. Try re-registering your fingerprint. Ensure the fingerprint sensor is clean.
  • Password not working: Verify you are entering the correct password. Ensure the keypad is clean and responsive.
  • Wi-Fi connection issues: Ensure your Wi-Fi router is working and within range. Restart the lock and your router. Re-pair the lock with the app if necessary.
  • Low Battery Alarm: The lock will emit an alarm when the battery is low. Recharge the battery immediately.
  • Anti-Prying Alarm: If the lock detects tampering or forced entry, an alarm will sound. Check the lock for physical damage.
  • Trial and Error Alarm: Repeated incorrect access attempts (e.g., too many wrong fingerprints or passwords) will trigger this alarm and temporarily disable access. Wait for the lockout period to expire.
