Triple Screen Functionality with Single Cable

Setup and Connection

Connection Options

There are two primary ways to connect your Maxfree M3 to your laptop:

  1. Option 1: Full-Function USB-C Cable
    Use a full-function USB-C cable to connect your laptop to the monitor extender. Ensure your laptop has a full-featured USB-C port (Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 ports are also full-featured). If your laptop has an M1/M2/M3 chip or does not have a full-featured Type-C port, you will need to install the driver.
  2. Option 2: HDMI Cable and USB-A Cable
    Use an HDMI cable and a USB-A cable to connect your laptop to the screen. When using this option, you will need to install the USB Display driver.

Driver Installation (MacOS)

Follow these steps to install the driver on MacOS, especially for M1/M2/M3 chip Macs or if your Type-C port is not full-featured:

  1. Connect the Maxfree M3 to your Mac using the Type-C to Type-C cable.
  2. On your Mac desktop, click on the 'USB Display-1.0' icon.
  3. In the window that appears, click on 'USB Display'.
  4. Select 'Move to Applications Folder' to install the application.
  5. If prompted for 'Screen Recording' access, click 'Open System Settings'.
  6. In 'Screen & System Audio Recording' settings, turn on the switch next to 'USB Display'.
  7. Enter your password and click 'Modify Settings'.
  8. Click 'Quit & Reopen' when prompted.
  9. The displays should now be extended, providing three different displays.

Driver Installation (Windows)

Follow these steps to install the driver on Windows:

  1. Connect the Maxfree M3 to your laptop using the Type-C to Type-C cable.
  2. A notification will appear, click to select the action to be performed on this disc.
  3. Run 'USBDisplay.exe' from the options.
  4. Click 'Yes' if prompted by User Account Control.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions of the 'Installation Wizard' and click 'Finish' once complete.
  6. The displays should now be extended.

Operating Modes

The Maxfree M3 supports various display modes to suit your needs:

Setting up Modes on Windows

After driver installation, you can configure display modes:

  1. Extended Mode: After installing the driver, you can drag multiple tasks to the two other screens to realize the extended mode.
  2. Split Mode: To switch to split mode, gently press the KEY button on the monitor for one second. You can then drag windows to the dual screens and enlarge them to fit.
  3. Flip Mode: To rotate the display 180°, gently press the KEY button for three seconds. To return to the previous orientation, press it again for three seconds.
  4. Mirror Mode: Open 'Settings' on your Windows laptop, then click 'Display'. Select 'Duplicate the desktop on screens 2 and 3' (or relevant screen numbers) and click 'Keep Changes'. You can manually arrange the positions of the main and secondary screens to achieve the duplicate effect.

Q: Why does only the top screen work when I connect the monitor to my laptop?
A: Ensure the driver is installed as instructed in the 'Setup and Connection' section.
Q: Why doesn't the monitor work when connected via USB-C cable?
A: Confirm your laptop has a full-featured USB-C port. Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 ports are also full-featured ports. If not, driver installation is required.
Q: Do I need to install any drivers?
A: If your laptop has a full-featured USB-C port, you can use a Type-C cable to connect without installing the driver. However, if your device does not have a full-featured USB-C port or if it has an M1/M2/M3 chip, you need to install the driver.
Q: Why does the screen extender show flicker or go black?
A: Your laptop may not supply sufficient power for three displays simultaneously. Use an additional 5V/2A adapter to power the screen extender. The extender can also charge the laptop in reverse if connected to external power.
