Setup
Careful setup is crucial for the stability and success of your aquarium. Follow these steps:
- Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage. Retain packaging for future transport if needed.
- Placement: Choose a level, sturdy surface capable of supporting the full weight of the aquarium when filled (approximately 29.4 gallons of water plus substrate, decorations, and equipment). Ensure the location is away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and drafts. The total height with the cabinet is 53.5 inches.
- Cabinet Assembly: Assemble the white cabinet according to the included assembly instructions. Ensure all connections are secure and the cabinet is stable.
- Aquarium Placement: Carefully place the glass aquarium onto the assembled cabinet. Ensure it is centered and level.
- Rinsing: Rinse the inside of the aquarium thoroughly with clean water. Do not use soaps or detergents.
- Equipment Installation: Install your filtration system, heater, and other necessary equipment. Utilize the integrated cutouts for equipment routing.
- Lighting: Position the included full spectrum Freshwater LED light. Ensure it is securely mounted.
- Filling: Begin filling the aquarium with dechlorinated water. Add substrate and decorations as desired.
- Cycling: Allow the aquarium to cycle before adding livestock. This process typically takes several weeks.
Operating
Proper operation ensures a healthy aquatic environment.
- Lighting Schedule: The full spectrum Freshwater LED light is designed to support plant growth and enhance fish coloration. Establish a consistent light cycle, typically 8-10 hours per day, to prevent excessive algae growth.
- Feeding: Feed fish appropriate amounts, typically once or twice daily, consuming food within a few minutes. Overfeeding can lead to poor water quality.
- Water Parameters: Regularly test water parameters such as ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH. Maintain stable parameters suitable for your aquatic inhabitants.
- Glass Lid: The glass lid opens from both sides, providing convenient access for feeding and maintenance while minimizing evaporation.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance is vital for a thriving aquarium.
- Water Changes: Perform weekly or bi-weekly partial water changes (25-30%) using dechlorinated water. This removes accumulated nitrates and replenishes essential minerals.
- Filter Cleaning: Clean or replace filter media as recommended by the filter manufacturer. Avoid cleaning all filter media at once to preserve beneficial bacteria.
- Glass Cleaning: Clean the interior and exterior glass surfaces regularly to remove algae and water spots. Use an aquarium-safe scraper or magnet cleaner for the interior.
- Equipment Check: Periodically inspect all equipment (heater, pump, light) for proper function and wear.
Troubleshooting
Common issues and their solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudy Water | New tank syndrome, overfeeding, bacterial bloom, insufficient filtration. | Perform partial water change, reduce feeding, ensure filter is clean and adequate. Allow time for biological filter to establish. |
| Excessive Algae | Too much light, high nitrates/phosphates, overfeeding. | Reduce light duration, increase water changes, reduce feeding, add algae-eating inhabitants. |
| Fish Sickness/Stress | Poor water quality, sudden temperature changes, incompatible tank mates. | Test water parameters and correct as needed, ensure stable temperature, research fish compatibility. |
