Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to brew coffee using your Stanley Classic Travel French Press:

  1. Add Coffee Grounds: Remove the plunger assembly. Add your desired amount of coarse-ground coffee to the bottom of the mug. For best results, use a coarse grind to prevent sediment.
  2. Add Hot Water: Pour hot (not boiling) water into the mug, ensuring it covers the coffee grounds. Leave approximately one inch of space from the top rim.
  3. Steep: Place the plunger assembly on top of the mug, but do not press down yet. Allow the coffee to steep for 3-5 minutes, depending on your preferred strength.
  4. Press: Slowly and steadily press the plunger straight down until it reaches the bottom. Avoid pressing too quickly, as this can force grounds through the filter.
  5. Enjoy: Your coffee is now ready to drink directly from the mug or pour into another cup. The double-wall insulation will keep your coffee hot for hours.

Important Note: Too coarse a grind, too little coffee, or insufficiently tamping the grounds before brewing can all lead to inadequate pressure for a proper brew. The amount of coffee extracted will vary depending on the grind size and amount.

Care and Maintenance

Maintaining your Stanley Classic Travel French Press is simple:

  • Dishwasher Safe: All components of this French press are dishwasher safe for convenient cleaning.
  • Hand Washing: For hand washing, disassemble the plunger and lid. Wash all parts with warm, soapy water. Use a brush to clean the mesh filter thoroughly to remove any trapped coffee grounds. Rinse all components completely and allow them to air dry before reassembly or storage.
  • Avoid Abrasives: Do not use abrasive cleaners or scrubbers, as these can damage the stainless steel finish.

Troubleshooting

  • Weak Coffee: If your coffee is too weak, try increasing the amount of coffee grounds, using a finer grind (but still coarse enough for French press), or extending the steeping time.
  • Excessive Sediment: If you find too many grounds in your coffee, ensure you are using a coarse grind. A fine grind will pass through the mesh filter more easily. Also, ensure the plunger is pressed slowly and steadily.
  • Difficulty Pressing Plunger: If the plunger is hard to press, your coffee grind might be too fine, or you might have too many grounds. Adjust the grind size to be coarser or reduce the amount of coffee.
  • Coffee Not Staying Hot: Ensure the lid is securely fastened after brewing. The double-wall vacuum insulation is designed to keep beverages hot for up to 4 hours.
