3. Setup
The MS116GS switch is designed for easy installation. No software configuration is required.
3.1 Physical Installation
- Placement: Place the switch on a stable, flat surface, such as a desktop, or mount it in a rack. Ensure adequate ventilation around the device.
- Power Connection: Connect the provided power adapter to the switch's power port and then plug the adapter into a standard electrical outlet. The Power LED on the front panel should illuminate.
- Network Connections: Connect your network devices (e.g., computers, printers, IP cameras, routers) to any of the 16 RJ45 ports using Ethernet cables. The corresponding Link/Act LED for each connected port will light up, indicating an active connection.

3.2 LED Indicators
The front panel features LED indicators to monitor the switch's status:
- Power LED:
- On: The switch is powered on.
- Off: The switch is powered off.
- Link/Act LEDs (for each port):
- On: A device is connected to the corresponding port.
- Flashing: Data is being transmitted or received through the corresponding port.
- Off: No device is connected to the corresponding port.
4. Operating Instructions
The MS116GS switch operates automatically once connected. It supports two special modes: Isolation Mode and Loop Prevention Mode, which can be activated via physical switches on the device.

Figure 4.1: Close-up of the mode switches for Isolation and Loop Prevention, located on the right side of the switch.
4.1 Isolation Mode
Isolation Mode allows for one-click client traffic separation. When enabled, ports 1-14 are isolated from each other, preventing them from communicating directly. All isolated ports can still communicate with ports 15-16 (uplink ports). This mode enhances security and performance by preventing broadcast storms and improving LAN security.
- To enable Isolation Mode: Set the "Isolation" switch to the "On" position.
- To disable Isolation Mode: Set the "Isolation" switch to the "Off" position (Default Mode).
4.2 Loop Prevention Mode
Loop Prevention Mode automatically detects and blocks network loops. A network loop occurs when there are multiple paths between two network devices, which can cause broadcast storms and network instability. When a loop is detected, the switch will block the corresponding port to prevent network disruption.
- To enable Loop Prevention Mode: Set the "Loop Prevention" switch to the "On" position.
- To disable Loop Prevention Mode: Set the "Loop Prevention" switch to the "Off" position (Default Mode).
5. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your MS116GS switch.
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the exterior of the switch with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation holes on the sides of the switch are not obstructed. Proper airflow is crucial for heat dissipation.
- Power Supply: Use only the power adapter provided with the switch. Using an incorrect power adapter may damage the device.
- Environment: Operate the switch within its specified temperature and humidity ranges. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight or near heat sources.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your MS116GS switch.
6.1 Power LED is Off
- Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the switch and a working electrical outlet.
- Verify that the power outlet is functioning correctly by plugging in another device.
6.2 Link/Act LED is Off for a Connected Device
- Check that the Ethernet cable is securely plugged into both the switch port and the network device.
- Ensure the connected device is powered on and its network adapter is functioning correctly.
- Try a different Ethernet cable or a different port on the switch.
- Verify that the cable length does not exceed the maximum recommended length (typically 100 meters for Ethernet).
6.3 Slow Network Speed
- Ensure all connected devices and cables support Gigabit Ethernet (1000 Mbps) for optimal performance.
- Check for network loops. If Loop Prevention Mode is off, consider enabling it.
- If Isolation Mode is enabled, ensure it is not inadvertently affecting communication between devices that need to interact directly.
- Restart the switch and connected devices.
