5. Setup
The SHALL tube cutters and deburring tools are ready for immediate use out of the box. No assembly is required.
- Select the Correct Tool: Choose the robust tube cutter for larger pipes (Ø 6–50 mm) or the mini tube cutter for smaller pipes (Ø 3–22 mm) and tight spaces.
- Prepare the Workpiece: Ensure the pipe to be cut is clean and free of debris. Mark the desired cutting line clearly.
- Secure the Pipe: For best results and safety, secure the pipe in a vise or with clamps to prevent it from moving during the cutting process.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1. Using the Robust Tube Cutter (Ø 6–50 mm)
- Open the Cutter: Rotate the adjustment knob counter-clockwise to open the jaws of the cutter wide enough to fit over the pipe.
- Position the Pipe: Place the pipe between the rollers and the cutting wheel, aligning the cutting wheel with your marked cutting line.
- Tighten the Cutter: Rotate the adjustment knob clockwise until the cutting wheel makes light contact with the pipe. Do not overtighten initially.
- Rotate and Tighten: Rotate the cutter around the pipe, making a full revolution. After each full rotation, tighten the adjustment knob slightly (about a quarter to half turn) to apply more pressure to the cutting wheel.
- Continue Cutting: Repeat the rotation and slight tightening process until the pipe is completely cut through. This gradual approach ensures a clean, straight cut and prolongs the life of the cutting wheel.

6.2. Using the Mini Tube Cutter (Ø 3–22 mm)
- Open the Cutter: Rotate the knurled knob counter-clockwise to open the jaws.
- Position the Pipe: Place the pipe between the rollers and the cutting wheel, aligning the cutting wheel with your marked cutting line.
- Tighten the Cutter: Rotate the knurled knob clockwise until the cutting wheel makes light contact with the pipe.
- Rotate and Tighten: Rotate the cutter around the pipe. After each full rotation, tighten the knob slightly to increase pressure.
- Complete the Cut: Continue rotating and tightening until the pipe is severed. The compact design is ideal for use in confined spaces.

6.3. Using the Deburring Tools
After cutting, burrs may remain on the inside or outside edges of the pipe. Use the deburring tools to create a smooth, clean edge.
- Internal Deburring: Insert the conical end of the deburring tool into the pipe opening. Rotate the tool while applying light pressure to remove internal burrs.
- External Deburring: Place the outer edge of the deburring tool over the pipe's exterior edge. Rotate the tool to remove external burrs and chamfer the edge.

7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the tools with a clean, dry cloth to remove any metal shavings or debris.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of light machine oil to the moving parts of the tube cutters (e.g., adjustment screw, rollers) to ensure smooth operation and prevent rust.
- Blade Inspection: Regularly inspect the cutting wheels for sharpness and damage. A dull or chipped wheel can lead to poor cuts and increased effort. Replacement cutting wheels may be available from the manufacturer.
- Storage: Store the tools in their original packaging or a suitable toolbox in a dry environment to protect them from moisture and damage.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Rough or uneven cut | Dull or damaged cutting wheel; insufficient tightening; pipe not secure. | Replace cutting wheel; tighten adjustment knob gradually; secure pipe firmly. |
| Difficulty rotating cutter | Excessive tightening; lack of lubrication; pipe material too hard for tool. | Loosen slightly and re-tighten gradually; lubricate moving parts; ensure tool is suitable for material. |
| Pipe deforms during cutting | Excessive pressure applied too quickly; using large cutter on small diameter pipe. | Apply pressure gradually; use the mini cutter for smaller diameter pipes. |
| Burrs remain after cutting | Normal occurrence after cutting. | Use the included deburring tools to remove burrs. |
