5. Installation
IMPORTANT: Before installation, ensure the power to the circuit where the smoke detector will be installed is turned OFF at the main fuse or circuit breaker panel.
5.1 Choosing a Location
- Install smoke detectors on every level of your home, including basements and attics.
- Place detectors inside and outside sleeping areas.
- Avoid installing near windows, doors, or areas with high airflow, which can interfere with smoke detection.
- Keep detectors away from cooking appliances, heating vents, and bathrooms with showers to prevent nuisance alarms.

5.2 Wiring Instructions
- Turn off the AC power at the circuit breaker.
- Connect the wiring harness to your household wiring:
- Black wire: Connect to the hot (live) wire from the AC power supply.
- White wire: Connect to the neutral wire from the AC power supply.
- Red wire: Connect to the interconnect wire for multi-unit synchronization. If not interconnecting, cap this wire with a wire nut.
- Ensure all connections are secure using wire nuts.

5.3 Mounting the Detector
- Attach the mounting plate to the electrical box using the provided screws. The 144mm (5.7") diameter plate is designed for most standard junction boxes.
- Insert the 9V backup battery into the battery compartment of the smoke detector. Ensure correct polarity.
- Connect the wiring harness from the ceiling to the back of the smoke detector unit.
- Align the smoke detector with the mounting plate and rotate it clockwise until it locks securely into place.

5.4 Interconnection (Optional)
If you are installing multiple Ecoey hardwired smoke detectors, connect the red interconnect wires between all units. When one interconnected unit detects smoke, all units will sound an alarm. A maximum of 12 smoke alarms and 6 combo smoke/CO detectors can be interconnected.

6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Power-Up
After installation and restoring AC power, the green LED indicator on the detector should illuminate, indicating it is receiving power. The unit will perform a self-test.

6.2 Testing the Detector
Test your smoke detector weekly to ensure it is functioning correctly.
- Press and hold the large "TEST" button on the front of the detector for approximately 5 seconds.
- The alarm will sound a loud, pulsating signal. If interconnected, all units will sound.
- Release the button. The alarm should stop.
- If the alarm does not sound, refer to the Troubleshooting section.
6.3 Silencing Nuisance Alarms
If a non-emergency alarm occurs (e.g., from cooking smoke), press the "TEST/SILENCE" button for approximately 5 seconds to temporarily silence the alarm. The detector will enter a temporary silence mode for a period (typically 10 minutes), after which it will reset. If smoke is still present, the alarm will reactivate.

6.4 Low Battery Warning
When the 9V backup battery is low, the detector will chirp approximately once every 30-60 seconds. This indicates that the battery needs to be replaced immediately. You can press the "TEST/SILENCE" button to enter a 10-hour "Do Not Disturb" mode for the low battery warning, allowing you to replace the battery at a more convenient time.

7. Maintenance
7.1 Battery Replacement
The 9V backup battery should be replaced at least once a year, or immediately when the low battery warning chirp sounds.
- Turn off the AC power to the smoke detector at the circuit breaker.
- Rotate the detector counter-clockwise to detach it from the mounting plate.
- Open the battery compartment and remove the old 9V battery.
- Insert a new 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity.
- Close the battery compartment.
- Reattach the detector to the mounting plate by rotating it clockwise until it locks.
- Restore AC power and test the detector.
7.2 Cleaning Your Smoke Detector
