The "Clear Codes" section is represented by a trash can icon and a check engine light turning off.

5.3. I/M Readiness Test

The I/M Readiness function checks the operation of the emission system on OBDII compliant vehicles. It indicates whether the various emissions-related systems are operating correctly and are ready for inspection and maintenance testing.

  1. From the main menu, select "I/M Readiness" or press the dedicated I/M button.
  2. The scanner will display the status of various monitors (e.g., MIL, MIS, FUE, OCM, CAT, HCAT). A green checkmark indicates the monitor is complete, while a red 'X' indicates it is not complete.

To the right, a car's exhaust emits smoke with a "SMOG CHECK" logo, and a table illustrates monitor statuses (MIL, DTC, MIS, FUE, OCM, CAT, HCAT) with checkmarks or 'X's.

5.4. View Freeze Frame Data

When an emission-related fault occurs, the vehicle's computer stores certain vehicle operating conditions at the time of the fault. This data is called Freeze Frame Data and can be viewed to help diagnose the issue.

  1. From the main menu, select "Freeze Frame" and press the OK button.
  2. The scanner will display various parameters such as engine RPM, vehicle speed, coolant temperature, etc., recorded at the moment the fault code was set.

5.5. Live Data Stream

This function allows you to view real-time data from the vehicle's sensors and components in numerical or graphical format. This is useful for monitoring engine performance and identifying intermittent problems.

  1. From the main menu, select "Live Data Stream" and press the OK button.
  2. You can scroll through various data parameters. Some models may offer a graphical display option.

5.6. O2 Sensor Test

This function retrieves O2 sensor monitor test results for the most recently completed tests from the vehicle's on-board computer. This data can be used to determine if the oxygen sensor is functioning correctly.

5.7. EVAP System Test

The EVAP (Evaporative Emission Control System) Test function initiates a leak test for the vehicle's EVAP system. This helps identify issues with fuel vapor leaks.

5.8. On-Board Monitor Test (Mode $6)

This function retrieves test results for emission-related powertrain components and systems that are not continuously monitored. It provides detailed information on specific component performance.

    • Verify the vehicle's battery has sufficient charge (above 8.0 volts).
  • Communication Error with Vehicle:
    • Confirm the vehicle is OBDII compliant (most vehicles since 1996).
    • Check for a loose connection at the DLC.
    • Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on and retry.
    • Ensure the vehicle's ECU is not damaged or in a fault state preventing communication.
  • Screen Freezes or Responds Slowly:
    • Disconnect the device from the vehicle, then reconnect.
    • If the issue persists, perform a software update if available.
