2. Package Contents

  • BENFEI USB C Video/Audio Capture Card (Model: 000408)
  • Integrated USB-C to USB-A adapter
  • User Manual (this document)

3. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to connect your BENFEI USB C Video/Audio Capture Card:

  1. Connect Input Device: Plug the USB-C cable from the capture card into the USB-C video output port of your source device (e.g., iPhone 15/16, Galaxy S23, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, iPad, or other USB-C video source).
  2. Connect to Computer: Plug the other end of the capture card (USB-C or USB-A via adapter) into an available USB port on your computer (PC/Windows/Mac OS).
  3. Power Connection (Optional but Recommended): For devices requiring power or for simultaneous charging, connect a PD 3.0 compatible power adapter (up to 100W) to the PD charging port on the capture card. Ensure the power source provides sufficient voltage (15V or higher is recommended for some devices like Switch/Steam Deck).

Important Note on Power Delivery:

  • The USB-C charging port on the capture card is designed to charge USB-C input devices (e.g., Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch).
  • It does not provide bidirectional charging to output devices like PCs, laptops, or Quest 3.
  • Always use the official or an equivalent power supply for your source device when using the PD charging feature to ensure stable operation.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Software Setup

The BENFEI capture card is generally plug-and-play and does not require specific driver installations on most Windows and Mac OS systems. It will be recognized as a standard video capture device.

To use the capture card, you will need third-party video capture software. Popular options include:

  • OBS Studio (Recommended for streaming and recording)
  • VLC Media Player
  • Windows Camera App (for basic capture on Windows)

4.2. Using with OBS Studio

For optimal performance with OBS Studio, follow these general steps:

  1. Open OBS Studio.
  2. In the 'Sources' box, click the '+' icon and select 'Video Capture Device'.
  3. In the properties window, select 'USB Video' as the Device.
  4. Configure video resolution (e.g., 1920x1080) and FPS (e.g., 60 FPS).
  5. For audio, ensure 'Use custom audio device' is checked and select 'USB Audio'.
  6. In the 'Audio Mixer' section, click the gear icon next to 'Desktop Audio' and select 'Advanced Audio Properties'.
  7. Set 'Monitor and Output' for both 'Video Capture Device' and 'Desktop Audio' as needed.

4.3. HDCP Considerations

High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) can prevent video capture. If you encounter a black screen or no signal, ensure HDCP is disabled on your source device if possible.

  • For Nintendo Switch: HDCP is off by default. It may activate when media apps (e.g., Netflix, Hulu) are started. HDCP automatically turns off when the media app is quit. If the signal does not return, restart the console.

4.4. Performance Notes

  • Resolution: Supports input resolutions up to 4K@30Hz and captures output at 1080P@60Hz.
  • Latency: Built-in advanced IC chip ensures ultra-low latency between the source and your computer.
  • Charging: The PD 100W port allows simultaneous streaming and charging of compatible USB-C input devices.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your BENFEI USB C Video/Audio Capture Card, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Avoid liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: Store the capture card in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Handling: Avoid dropping the device or subjecting it to strong impacts. Do not bend the cables excessively.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the device has adequate ventilation during operation to prevent overheating.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your BENFEI USB C Video/Audio Capture Card, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible Cause / Solution
No video signal / Black screen
  • Ensure all cables are securely connected.
  • Verify the source device is powered on and outputting video.
  • Check if HDCP is enabled on the source device and disable it if possible.
  • Confirm your capture software is correctly configured to select the capture card.
  • Try a different USB port on your computer.
No audio captured
  • Ensure audio settings in your capture software are correctly configured to 'USB Audio'.
  • Check the audio output settings on your source device.
Device gets warm during use
  • It is normal for the device to generate some heat during operation.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation around the capture card. If it becomes excessively hot and causes transmission cuts, reduce usage time or ensure it's in a cooler environment.
PD Charging not working
  • Ensure your power adapter is PD 3.0 compatible and provides sufficient wattage (up to 100W).
  • Verify the power cable is securely connected to both the adapter and the capture card.
  • Remember, the PD port charges the input device, not the computer.
  • Some devices (e.g., Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck) require their official chargers for optimal power delivery.
Lag or stuttering video
  • Ensure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for video capture.
  • Close unnecessary applications running in the background.
  • Use a USB 3.0 (or higher) port on your computer for optimal data transfer speeds.
  • Lower the capture resolution or frame rate in your software if your system struggles.
