2. Safety Instructions

WARNING: Operating a melting furnace involves extreme heat and molten metal, which can cause severe burns and injury. Always follow safety precautions.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear appropriate safety gear, including heat-resistant gloves, eye protection (face shield recommended), long sleeves, and heavy-duty footwear.
  • Ventilation: Operate the furnace in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling fumes from melting metals or any contaminants.
  • Stable Surface: Place the furnace on a stable, non-combustible, and level surface away from flammable materials.
  • Metal Compatibility: This furnace is designed for metals with melting points below 1000°C (1830°F), such as aluminum and silver. Do NOT attempt to melt metals like copper or gold, as their melting points exceed the furnace's maximum operating temperature.
  • Crucible Filling: Do not overfill the crucible. Overfilling can lead to increased pressure and dangerous spills. Ensure there is adequate space for expansion of the molten metal.
  • Moisture: Ensure all materials placed into the crucible are completely dry. Moisture can cause violent eruptions when introduced to molten metal.
  • Electrical Safety: Ensure the power supply matches the furnace's requirements (110V). Do not operate with damaged cords or plugs. If you experience any electrical issues, immediately discontinue use and contact support.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the operating area.

4. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage.
  2. Placement: Position the furnace on a stable, heat-resistant, and non-flammable surface. Ensure adequate clearance around the unit for ventilation and safe operation.
  3. Power Connection: Connect the furnace power cord to a grounded 110V electrical outlet. Ensure the power switch on the front panel is in the OFF position before plugging in.
  4. Crucible Preparation: For the first use, it is recommended to pre-heat the empty crucible inside the furnace to 500°C for approximately 15-20 minutes to cure it and remove any residual moisture. This helps extend the crucible's lifespan.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Place Crucible: Carefully place the graphite crucible into the furnace using the provided tongs.
  2. Load Metal: Place the metal to be melted into the crucible. Ensure the metal is dry and free of contaminants. Do not fill the crucible beyond 80% capacity.
  3. Close Lid: Securely close the furnace lid.
  4. Power On: Flip the main power switch to the ON position. The PID controller display will illuminate.
  5. Set Temperature: Use the PID controller to set your desired melting temperature. Refer to the controller's specific instructions for detailed temperature setting procedures. The maximum operating temperature is 999°C.
  6. Heating Process: The furnace will begin heating. Monitor the temperature display. Melting aluminum typically takes 60-70 minutes when the crucible is filled to 80% capacity.
  7. Pouring: Once the metal is molten and at the desired temperature, carefully open the lid using the tongs. Using the crucible tongs, securely grasp the crucible and slowly pour the molten metal into your mold. Exercise extreme caution to avoid splashes.
  8. Cool Down: After pouring, return the empty crucible to the furnace. Close the lid and turn off the main power switch. Allow the furnace and crucible to cool down completely before handling.

6. Maintenance

  • Crucible Care: After each use, allow the crucible to cool completely. Gently remove any solidified residue. Avoid harsh scraping that could damage the graphite. Crucibles are consumables and will need replacement over time.
  • Furnace Interior: Periodically inspect the furnace interior for any debris or damage to the heating elements or insulation. Ensure the furnace is unplugged and cool before inspection.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the furnace with a dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or liquids that could enter the electrical components.
  • Storage: Store the furnace in a dry, dust-free environment when not in use.
