Safety Information

  • Read, follow, and keep these instructions.
  • Heed all warnings.
  • Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not use this product near water.
  • Clean only with dry cloth.
  • Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
  • Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding-type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
  • Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
  • Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
  • Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

Setup

Mounting the Device

The LiteBeam 5AC XR is designed for pole mounting. Ensure the mounting surface is stable and can support the device securely.

  1. Attach the mounting bracket to the back of the LiteBeam 5AC XR device.
  2. Secure the pole clamp to the mounting bracket.
  3. Position the device on a pole and tighten the pole clamp bolts to secure it.
  4. Adjust the aiming of the device as needed for optimal signal alignment.

Connecting Power and Network

The LiteBeam 5AC XR uses Power over Ethernet (PoE) for both power and data transmission.

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from the LiteBeam 5AC XR's Ethernet port to the "PoE" port on the included Gigabit PoE adapter.
  2. Connect another Ethernet cable from your network switch or router to the "LAN" port on the PoE adapter.
  3. Connect the power cord to the PoE adapter and then to a power outlet.
  4. Ensure all connections are secure and weatherproofed, especially for outdoor installations.

Operating Instructions

Initial Configuration

After physical installation and power-up, the device needs to be configured via its web interface.

  1. Ensure your computer is connected to the same network as the LiteBeam 5AC XR (via the LAN port of the PoE adapter).
  2. The default IP address for the device is typically 192.168.1.20. If this does not work, refer to the Ubiquiti discovery tool or your network's DHCP server.
  3. Open a web browser and navigate to the device's IP address.
  4. Log in using the default credentials (e.g., username: ubnt, password: ubnt). You will be prompted to change the password for security.
  5. Follow the on-screen wizard to configure the device for your specific network requirements (e.g., Access Point, Station, PtP, PtMP modes, SSID, security settings, channel frequency).

Link Alignment

For optimal performance in Point-to-Point or Point-to-MultiPoint setups, precise alignment is crucial.

  • Use the signal strength indicators (LEDs on the device or the signal meter in the web interface) to fine-tune the aiming of the LiteBeam 5AC XR.
  • Adjust both horizontal and vertical angles incrementally until the highest possible signal strength is achieved.
  • Secure all mounting hardware once optimal alignment is confirmed.

Maintenance

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the device and its mounting hardware for any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage, especially after severe weather conditions.
  • Cleaning: Keep the antenna surface clean from dirt, dust, and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check the Ubiquiti support website for firmware updates. Keeping the firmware updated ensures optimal performance, security, and access to new features.
  • Cable Integrity: Ensure all Ethernet cables and power cords are intact and free from damage. Replace any damaged cables immediately.

Troubleshooting

  • No Power:
    • Check if the PoE adapter is properly connected to a power outlet and the device.
    • Verify the power cord is not damaged.
    • Ensure the power outlet is functional.
  • No Network Connectivity:
    • Check Ethernet cable connections between the device, PoE adapter, and network switch/router.
    • Verify the device's IP address and network settings.
    • Ensure the device's firmware is up to date.
    • Try resetting the device to factory defaults (refer to the reset procedure in the web interface or physical reset button).
  • Poor Signal Strength/Low Throughput:
    • Re-align the device for better signal strength.
    • Check for obstructions in the line of sight between devices.
    • Ensure there is no interference from other wireless devices; consider changing the operating frequency/channel.
    • Verify that both ends of the link are configured correctly (e.g., matching SSIDs, security keys).
