1. Safety Instructions
Always read and understand this manual completely before operating the Scheppach MR230-61 ride-on lawn mower. Failure to follow instructions can result in serious injury or property damage.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection, hearing protection, sturdy footwear, and long pants.
- Keep children and bystanders away from the operating area. Never allow children to operate the mower.
- Do not operate the mower under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication that may impair judgment.
- Inspect the area to be mowed for objects that could be thrown by the blades. Remove all debris.
- Always turn off the engine and remove the spark plug wire before performing any maintenance or clearing blockages.
- Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Do not smoke while refueling.
- Be aware of the maximum 10-degree slope inclination for safe operation. Avoid mowing on excessively steep slopes.

3. Setup
3.1 Initial Assembly
The Scheppach MR230-61 requires minimal assembly. Ensure all components are present and undamaged before beginning.
- Handlebar and Seat Installation: Secure the handlebar and seat according to the diagrams in the separate assembly guide.
- Side Discharge Chute: The side discharge chute is easy to mount. Attach it securely to the designated opening on the mowing deck if you intend to use this function.
3.2 Pre-Operation Checks
Before each use, perform the following checks:
- Engine Oil Level: Check the engine oil level using the dipstick. Add recommended oil if necessary.
- Fuel Level: Fill the fuel tank with fresh, unleaded gasoline. Do not overfill.
- Tire Pressure: Ensure all tires are inflated to the recommended pressure for optimal performance and stability.
- Battery Connection (for E-Start): Verify the battery is properly connected and charged for electric starting.
- Blade Condition: Inspect the mowing blades for sharpness and damage. Replace or sharpen as needed.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Starting the Engine
The MR230-61 features a hybrid start system, allowing for both electric and manual starting.

- Electric Start: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the 'START' position. Release once the engine starts.
- Pull Cord Start: If the electric start is not used, pull the starter cord firmly until the engine starts.
4.2 Engaging and Disengaging Blades
The mowing deck can be manually engaged and disengaged using the dedicated lever.
- To engage the blades, move the blade engagement lever to the 'ON' position.
- To disengage the blades, move the lever to the 'OFF' position. Always disengage blades when not mowing or when transporting the mower.
4.3 Adjusting Cutting Height
The cutting height can be centrally adjusted in 5 steps from 35 mm to 75 mm.
- Locate the cutting height adjustment lever.
- Move the lever to select the desired cutting height. Higher numbers correspond to a higher cut.
4.4 Gear Selection
The mower features 4 forward gears and 1 reverse gear for varying speeds and maneuverability.

- Use the gear lever to select the appropriate speed for the terrain and mowing conditions.
- Forward speeds: 1.5 km/h, 2.0 km/h, 4.0 km/h, 6.0 km/h.
- Reverse speed: 2.4 km/h.
4.5 Grass Collection and Side Discharge
The mower can either collect grass clippings in the 150 L grass catcher or discharge them from the side.

- Grass Catcher: Ensure the grass catcher is properly attached before mowing. Empty it regularly to maintain optimal collection performance.
- Side Discharge: If using side discharge, ensure the chute is securely attached and clear of obstructions.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Scheppach MR230-61.
5.1 Cleaning the Mowing Deck
The integrated water connection simplifies cleaning the underside of the mowing deck.

- After each use, connect a garden hose to the water connection on the deck.
- Start the engine and engage the blades for a short period to allow the water to clean the deck.
- Turn off the engine and disconnect the hose.
5.2 Engine Maintenance
- Oil Change: Change the engine oil after the first 5 hours of operation, then every 25 hours or annually, whichever comes first.
- Air Filter: Clean or replace the air filter regularly, especially in dusty conditions.
- Spark Plug: Inspect and clean the spark plug annually. Replace if worn.
5.3 Blade Maintenance
- Sharpening: Keep the blades sharp for optimal cutting performance. Sharpen them regularly or as needed.
- Replacement: Replace bent, cracked, or excessively worn blades immediately.
5.4 Storage
- Clean the mower thoroughly before storing.
- Drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer if storing for an extended period.
- Store the mower in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
