5. Setup
5.1 Powering the Device
The Fame BC-1 can be powered via USB or batteries.
- USB Power: Connect the supplied USB cable to the USB port on the BC-1 and to a powered USB port on a computer or a USB power adapter (not included).
- Battery Power: Open the battery compartment on the rear of the device (refer to Figure 4.2) and insert the required batteries (type and quantity specified in Section 9: Specifications). Ensure correct polarity.
5.2 Connecting to MIDI Devices
The BC-1 transmits MIDI data. Connect it to your computer or MIDI-compatible instrument:
- USB MIDI: Connect the BC-1 to your computer using the USB cable. The device should be recognized automatically as a MIDI input device. Install any necessary drivers if prompted by your operating system.
- MIDI Out: If available, connect a standard MIDI cable from the BC-1's MIDI OUT port to the MIDI IN port of your synthesizer or sound module.
5.3 Attaching the Neck Strap
For comfortable playing, attach the neck strap to the designated loop on the BC-1 (refer to Figure 4.4 for strap attachment point). Adjust the strap length to a comfortable position.
6. Operating
6.1 Power On/Off
Press and hold the power button (refer to Figure 4.4) to turn the device on or off. The display (Figure 4.5) will illuminate upon power-up.
6.2 Basic Playback
- Mouthpiece: Place the mouthpiece in your mouth and blow gently to produce sound. The breath sensor detects pressure, controlling volume and expression.
- Keys: Use the keys on the front of the device (Figure 4.3) to play notes, similar to a wind instrument.
6.3 Sound Selection
The display (Figure 4.5) shows the currently selected instrument sound. Use the navigation buttons adjacent to the display to browse and select different sounds or patches. Consult your connected MIDI software or hardware manual for specific sound mapping.
6.4 Parameter Adjustment
The BC-1 may offer various parameters for adjustment, such as breath sensitivity, key sensitivity, and MIDI channel. Refer to the on-screen menu (Figure 4.5) and use the control buttons (Figure 4.5) to navigate and modify these settings. Specific instructions for parameter adjustment will be displayed on the screen.
7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning
- Mouthpiece: Regularly clean the mouthpiece with a mild disinfectant solution and a soft cloth. Ensure it is completely dry before reattaching.
- Body: Wipe the body of the controller with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
7.2 Storage
When not in use, store the BC-1 in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the mouthpiece cover to protect the mouthpiece.
8. Troubleshooting
- No Sound:
- Ensure the BC-1 is powered on.
- Check MIDI connections to your computer or sound module.
- Verify that your MIDI software/hardware is correctly configured to receive MIDI input from the BC-1 and that a sound is selected.
- Adjust breath sensitivity settings on the BC-1.
- Keys Not Responding:
- Check for any physical obstructions under the keys.
- Ensure the device is powered on and connected.
- Display Not Working:
- Ensure the device has sufficient power (check batteries or USB connection).
