5. Calibration

Regular calibration ensures the accuracy of your pH measurements. The YY-400 supports 3-point pH calibration using buffer solutions pH 4.00, pH 6.86, and pH 9.18.

5.1 Preparing Calibration Solutions

  1. Empty one packet of pH 4.00 buffer powder into a clean beaker or container. Add 250ml of distilled water and stir until dissolved.
  2. Repeat for pH 6.86 and pH 9.18 buffer powders, using separate clean containers for each.
  3. Ensure the temperature of the buffer solutions is around 25°C (77°F) for optimal accuracy.

5.2 pH Calibration Procedure

  1. Turn on the device and switch to pH mode.
  2. Rinse the probe with distilled water and gently blot dry.
  3. Immerse the probe into the pH 6.86 buffer solution.
  4. Press and hold the MODE/CAL button until "CAL" appears on the display. Release the button.
  5. The device will automatically recognize the buffer solution. Wait for the reading to stabilize and for "END" to appear, indicating successful calibration.
  6. Rinse the probe with distilled water.
  7. Repeat steps 3-5 for pH 4.00 buffer solution.
  8. Rinse the probe with distilled water.
  9. Repeat steps 3-5 for pH 9.18 buffer solution.
  10. After completing all three points, the device is calibrated. Rinse the probe and replace the protective cap.

Note: If the device fails to recognize a buffer solution or calibration fails, ensure the buffer solutions are fresh, the probe is clean, and the temperature is stable. You may need to repeat the calibration process.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Probe

  • Always rinse the probe with distilled water before and after each use.
  • Do not use abrasive materials or strong detergents, as this can damage the probe.
  • If the probe is heavily soiled, soak it in a mild cleaning solution (e.g., pH electrode cleaning solution) for a short period, then rinse thoroughly with distilled water.

6.2 Storage

  • Always replace the protective cap after use to keep the probe moist and protected.
  • Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.

7. Troubleshooting
