- Fill Water Reservoir: Open the lid and fill the water reservoir with cold, fresh water to the desired level, using the water window for guidance. Do not exceed the 12-cup MAX line.
- Add Coffee Grounds: Place a standard basket-style paper filter (or the reusable filter, if included) into the removable filter basket. Add the desired amount of ground coffee. A general guideline is one level tablespoon of coffee per cup, but adjust to your taste.
- Position Filter Basket: Close the lid, ensuring the filter basket is properly seated.
- Place Carafe: Place the empty carafe with its lid securely on the warming plate. Ensure it is centered to activate the drip-stop mechanism.
- Start Brewing: Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet. Press the power switch to the "ON" position. The indicator light will illuminate, and brewing will begin.
- Pause and Serve: The coffee maker features a pause-and-serve function. You can temporarily remove the carafe during the brewing cycle to pour a cup. The flow of coffee will automatically stop. Replace the carafe within 30 seconds to prevent overflow.
- Keep Warm: Once brewing is complete, the warming plate will keep the coffee hot. The power indicator light will remain on until the unit is manually turned off.
- Turn Off: After serving, press the power switch to the "OFF" position and unplug the coffee maker from the outlet.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Daily Cleaning
- Always unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Remove the filter basket and discard the used coffee grounds and paper filter.
- Wash the carafe, lid, and filter basket in warm, soapy water. These parts are also dishwasher-safe (top rack recommended).
- Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker, warming plate, and water reservoir area with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Never immerse the main unit, cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
Decalcifying (Mineral Deposit Removal)
Mineral deposits (calcium) can build up in your coffee maker over time, affecting its performance. Decalcify your coffee maker every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you have hard water.
- Prepare Solution: Fill the water reservoir with white vinegar up to the 4-cup mark, then fill the rest with cold water up to the 12-cup mark.
- Run Half Cycle: Place an empty paper filter in the filter basket. Place the carafe on the warming plate. Turn the coffee maker on and let half of the solution brew through.
- Soak: Turn the coffee maker off and let it stand for at least 15 minutes to allow the solution to clean the internal components.
- Complete Cycle: Turn the coffee maker back on and allow the remaining solution to brew through.
- Rinse Cycles: Discard the vinegar solution. Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water and run two full brewing cycles with only water to rinse out any remaining vinegar taste.
