2. Safety Instructions
Always follow basic safety precautions when using electric power tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury.
- Read the Manual: Familiarize yourself with all controls and proper use before operation.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection, and sturdy footwear. Long pants are recommended.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure the power outlet matches the tool's voltage. Use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) for outdoor use. Keep the power cord clear of the working area and cutting blades. Do not operate in wet conditions.
- Clear Work Area: Before starting, remove all objects such as rocks, sticks, wires, and other debris from the lawn that could be thrown by the blades.
- Keep Bystanders Away: Do not allow children or pets near the operating dethatcher. Maintain a safe distance from others.
- Blade Safety: Disconnect power before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or blade changes. Blades continue to rotate for a short period after the machine is turned off.
- Secure Cord: Utilize the integrated cord retention feature to prevent accidental disconnection during operation.
- Proper Handling: Operate the machine only when the collection bag or rear guard is in place. Never lift or carry the machine while the motor is running.
- Storage: Store the dethatcher in a dry, secure place out of reach of children.
3. Assembly
The MZK dethatcher requires minimal assembly. Follow these steps:
- Handle Assembly: Attach the upper handle to the lower handle using the provided knobs and bolts. Ensure the handle is securely fastened and aligned. The handle is adjustable to three heights for user comfort.
- Collection Bag Attachment: Securely attach the 45L collection bag to the rear of the dethatcher. Ensure it is properly seated to collect thatch and debris effectively.
- Blade Installation (if not pre-installed): The unit comes with two interchangeable blades: a dethatcher blade and a scarifier blade. Refer to Section 4.2 for detailed blade changing instructions.

4.2 Blade Changing (Dethatcher vs. Scarifier)
The unit comes with two quick-release blades for different lawn care needs.
- Dethatcher Blade: Equipped with spring tines, ideal for removing surface thatch and moss.
- Scarifier Blade: Features rigid blades that cut into the soil, promoting deeper root growth and improved aeration.
To Change Blades:
- Disconnect Power: Always unplug the dethatcher from the power source before changing blades.
- Access Blade Compartment: Follow the instructions in your quick start guide to open the blade compartment.
- Remove Current Blade: Carefully unlatch and remove the installed blade assembly.
- Install New Blade: Insert the desired blade (dethatcher or scarifier) into the compartment, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
- Close Compartment: Close and secure the blade compartment cover.

4.3 Depth Adjustment
The MZK dethatcher offers 5-position height adjustment to suit various lawn conditions and tasks.
- Settings: The depth can be adjusted from -0.47" (deepest) to 0.24" (shallowest).
- Adjustment Lever: Use the red lever on the side of the unit to select the desired depth setting.
- Recommended Use: Start with a higher setting for initial passes, especially on heavily thatched lawns, and gradually decrease the depth if needed.

4.4 Operating Tips
- Dry Lawn: For best results, operate the dethatcher on a dry lawn. Wet thatch is harder to remove and can clog the machine.
- Overlap Passes: Make slightly overlapping passes to ensure complete coverage of your lawn.
- Collection Bag: The 45L collection bag efficiently gathers debris. Empty it frequently to maintain optimal performance and prevent clogging.
- Cord Management: Always be aware of the power cord's position to avoid cutting it. Use the cord retention feature.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your dethatcher.
- Cleaning: After each use, disconnect power and clean the machine. Remove any accumulated thatch, grass, or debris from the housing, blades, and wheels. Use a brush or cloth; do not use water directly on electrical components.
- Blade Inspection: Periodically inspect the dethatcher and scarifier blades for wear or damage. Replace worn or bent blades to maintain effective performance.
- Storage: Store the dethatcher in a dry, well-ventilated area. The foldable handle allows for compact storage.
