4. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the performance and longevity of your battery. If you are unsure about any steps, consult a qualified electrician or technician.

4.1 Pre-Installation Checklist:

  • Verify that all components listed in the package contents are present.
  • Ensure the installation area is clean, dry, and well-ventilated.
  • Confirm that your charging system (solar charge controller, inverter charger, etc.) is compatible with LiFePO4 batteries and can provide the correct charging voltage and current.
  • Have appropriate tools ready, including a wrench for M12 terminals, wire cutters, and crimpers if necessary.

4.2 Connecting the Battery:

  1. Positioning: Place the battery in a secure location. The battery's robust design allows for various mounting positions.
  2. Terminal Connections: Connect the positive (+) cable to the positive terminal of the battery and the negative (-) cable to the negative terminal. Ensure connections are tight using the provided M12 terminal bolts.
  3. Series/Parallel Connections (Optional):
    • Parallel Connection (for increased capacity at 12V): Connect positive terminals together and negative terminals together. Ensure all batteries are at a similar State of Charge (SOC) before connecting in parallel.
    • Series Connection (for increased voltage): Connect the positive terminal of one battery to the negative terminal of the next. This battery supports up to 4S (4 batteries in series) for higher voltage systems.
  4. System Integration: Connect the battery system to your charge controller, inverter, or other loads according to their respective manuals.

5. Operating Instructions

Your OCELL LiFePO4 battery is designed for deep cycle applications, offering consistent power delivery throughout its lifespan.

5.1 Charging:

  • Use a LiFePO4 compatible charger. The recommended charging voltage is typically between 14.2V and 14.6V.
  • The integrated BMS will manage the charging process, preventing overcharging and ensuring cell balance.
  • Charging is protected at low temperatures. The BMS will prevent charging if the battery temperature is too low to avoid damage.

5.2 Discharging:

  • The battery can deliver a continuous discharge current of up to 200A (as per BMS rating).
  • The BMS will protect the battery from over-discharging by cutting off power if the voltage drops below a safe threshold.
  • For optimal lifespan, avoid consistently discharging the battery to 0% Depth of Discharge (DOD).

6. Maintenance

OCELL LiFePO4 batteries require minimal maintenance compared to lead-acid batteries.

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically check the battery terminals for cleanliness and tightness. Ensure there are no signs of corrosion or damage.
  • Cleaning: If necessary, clean the battery casing with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: For long-term storage, charge the battery to approximately 50% State of Charge (SOC) and store it in a cool, dry place. Avoid storing fully charged or fully discharged for extended periods.
  • Temperature: While the BMS offers temperature protection, operating and storing the battery within its recommended temperature range will maximize its lifespan.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your OCELL LiFePO4 battery, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Battery Not Charging:
    • Check all cable connections for tightness and proper polarity.
    • Ensure your charger is compatible with LiFePO4 batteries and is functioning correctly.
    • Verify the battery temperature is within the safe charging range (BMS may prevent charging if too cold).
    • If the battery was deeply discharged, some chargers may require a "wake-up" feature or a specific charging sequence.
  • No Power Output:
    • Check battery voltage. If it's too low, the BMS may have activated over-discharge protection. Recharge the battery.
    • Inspect all connections to the load for looseness or corrosion.
    • Check for any tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses in your system.
    • The BMS may have activated overcurrent or short-circuit protection. Disconnect the load, wait a few minutes, and reconnect. If the issue persists, reduce the load or check for a short circuit in your system.
  • Unusual Odor or Swelling:
    • Immediately disconnect the battery from all loads and chargers.
    • Move the battery to a safe, well-ventilated area away from flammable materials.
    • Contact OCELL customer support immediately. Do not attempt to use or repair the battery.
