hygger Aquarium Overflow Filter HG183 Instruction Manual

Model: HG183 | Brand: hygger

1. Introduction

The hygger Aquarium Overflow Filter with Waste Collection Separator is designed to provide efficient filtration for both saltwater and freshwater tanks taller than 15 inches (40cm). This external hanging filter accessory eliminates the need for drilling and simplifies maintenance by separating fish waste for easy disposal and reducing the frequency of filter sponge cleaning. It also features an oil film remover for clear water surface.

2. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your hygger Aquarium Overflow Filter:

  1. Unpack and Inspect: Carefully remove all components from the packaging and inspect for any damage.
  2. Assembly: The filter features fewer pipes and a less complicated installation process. Pipes that do not need to be cut are pre-fixed at the factory. The bottom hard pipes, which were prone to leaks, have been replaced with a hose for easier and more secure installation.
  3. Tank Compatibility: This filter is suitable for tanks with a height of 15 inches (40cm) or greater. It can be hung on tank walls with a thickness of 1.77 inches or less. Ensure your aquarium is positioned close to the edge of the base table to allow access for opening the discharge valve.
  4. Power Source (Not Included): A water pump is required as a power source to initiate the water circulation.

3. Operating Principles

The hygger Aquarium Overflow Filter operates on a continuous water circulation principle to maintain a clean and healthy aquatic environment:

  • Filtration Principle: A water pump (not included) drives the water cycle. Filtered water re-enters the tank through the upper water inlet pipe. Dirty water is drawn in through the bottom suction pipe and the water surface oil film remover.
  • Impurity Collection: Some impurities settle into the dedicated collection chamber. These can be discharged by opening a valve.
  • Further Filtration: Remaining dirty water flows into a bottom filter container (or other filtration stage) where it is filtered through additional filter material (not included).
  • Separator Operation: The process involves:
    1. Impurities and food particles are introduced.
    2. These are sucked away by the filter's intake.
    3. A 304 stainless steel net intercepts larger particles.
    4. Particles flow into the sedimentation box.
    5. A rotating outlet valve allows for easy discharge of collected impurities.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your filter:

  • Waste Sedimentation Chamber: The impurity collection chamber and discharge valve are designed for easy handling. Regularly discharge accumulated impurities by opening the valve to prevent excessive buildup. This reduces the need for frequent filter material replacement and enhances overall filtering effectiveness.
  • Oil Film Remover: The filter is equipped with an oil film remover to keep the water surface clear. Clean as needed to maintain efficiency.
  • Filter Material: Periodically check and replace or clean your chosen filter material (not included) as per its specific instructions.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your hygger Aquarium Overflow Filter, consider the following common solutions:

  • Reduced Water Flow:
    • Check the water pump for clogs or blockages.
    • Inspect the intake pipes and oil film remover for debris.
    • Clean or replace the filter material if it is saturated.
  • Water Leakage:
    • Ensure all hose connections are secure and tight.
    • Verify that the filter is correctly seated on the tank wall and that the tank wall thickness is within the specified limit (≤ 1.77 inches).
  • Poor Water Clarity:
    • Ensure the filter material is appropriate for fine particle removal and is not overdue for cleaning or replacement.
    • Regularly empty the waste sedimentation chamber.
    • Check the oil film remover for proper function and cleanliness.
  • Unusual Noise:
    • Inspect the water pump for any foreign objects or wear.
    • Ensure the filter is securely mounted and not vibrating against the tank or other surfaces.
