5. Operating Instructions (Adjustments)
The CISA 604 Series Door Closer features independent adjustments for closing speed and final strike, allowing precise control over door movement.
5.1. Adjusting Closing Speed
The closing speed is regulated by a valve located on the side of the closer body. This valve controls the speed of the door from its fully open position until approximately 15 degrees from the closed position.
- To increase closing speed, turn the adjustment screw clockwise (usually marked 'S' or '1').
- To decrease closing speed, turn the adjustment screw counter-clockwise.
5.2. Adjusting Final Strike (Latching Speed)
The final strike, or latching speed, controls the door's speed for the last 15 degrees of closure, ensuring it latches securely without slamming. This is regulated by a separate valve.
- To increase latching speed, turn the adjustment screw clockwise (usually marked 'L' or '2').
- To decrease latching speed, turn the adjustment screw counter-clockwise.
Make small adjustments and test the door's closing action after each adjustment. Avoid over-tightening the screws.

6. Maintenance
The CISA 604 Series Door Closer is designed for minimal maintenance. However, periodic checks can ensure its longevity and optimal performance.
- Annual Inspection: Check all mounting screws for tightness. Re-tighten if necessary.
- Arm Assembly: Inspect the articulated arm for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure all pivot points move freely.
- Cleaning: Wipe the closer body with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and grime. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Functionality Test: Periodically test the door's closing and latching speed to ensure it operates as desired. Readjust if needed.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Door closes too fast/slow | Closing speed or latching speed adjustment incorrect. | Adjust the appropriate speed valve (refer to Section 5). |
| Door does not latch properly | Latching speed too slow or arm assembly misaligned. | Increase latching speed. Check arm alignment and ensure all screws are tight. |
| Door closer leaks oil | Internal seal damage or extreme temperature fluctuations. | Contact customer support for assistance. Do not attempt to repair. |
| Door closer makes excessive noise | Loose mounting screws or worn arm components. | Check and tighten all mounting screws. Inspect arm assembly for wear. |
