5. Setup

5.1. Assembling the MD09 Metal Detector

  1. Attach the Search Coil: Connect the search coil to the lower stem using the provided bolt and nut. Ensure it is securely fastened but do not overtighten.
  2. Assemble the Stem: Insert the lower stem into the middle stem, and then insert the middle stem into the upper stem (which has the control box and armrest). Adjust the length to a comfortable height.
  3. Mount the Control Box: Ensure the control box is firmly attached to the upper stem.
  4. Wrap the Cable: Carefully wrap the search coil cable around the stem, ensuring it is not pinched or strained. Plug the cable connector into the port on the control box.
  5. Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the control box and insert the required batteries, observing polarity. Close the compartment securely.
  6. Adjust Armrest: Position the armrest for comfortable use.

5.2. Setting Up the MD12 Pinpointer

  1. Install Battery: Unscrew the battery cover at the end of the pinpointer. Insert the 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity. Replace the battery cover and twist to secure.
  2. Attach Lanyard (Optional): If desired, attach the included lanyard to the pinpointer for added security during use.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Operating the MD09 Metal Detector

  1. Power On/Off: Press the POWER button to turn the detector on or off.
  2. Select Mode: Press the MODE button to cycle through the 5 detection modes: ALL METAL, CUSTOM, JEWELRY, MEMORY, and COINS.
  3. Adjust Sensitivity: Press the SENS button, then use the + or - buttons to adjust the sensitivity level. Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but may also increase false signals.
  4. Pinpoint Function: Press and hold the PP button to activate the pinpoint mode. This helps narrow down the exact location of a detected target.
  5. Volume/Backlight: Press the VOL/LIGHT button to adjust volume. Press and hold to turn the backlight on or off.
  6. Sweeping Technique: Hold the search coil parallel to the ground, about 1-2 inches above the surface. Sweep the coil slowly from side to side in overlapping arcs.
  7. Interpreting Signals: The display will show a Target ID number and an icon indicating the probable type of metal. Audio tones will also vary based on the detected metal.

6.2. Operating the MD12 Pinpointer

  1. Power On/Off: Press the large circular button on the side to turn the pinpointer on or off.
  2. Detection: Once powered on, slowly move the tip of the pinpointer over the area where a target was detected by the main metal detector.
  3. Alert Modes: The MD12 will emit both sound and vibration alerts when metal is detected. The intensity of the alerts will increase as you get closer to the target.
  4. LED Flashlight: The built-in LED light will illuminate the search area, useful in low-light conditions.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the detector and pinpointer with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the devices in a cool, dry place when not in use. If storing for extended periods, remove batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Battery Care: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears. Use high-quality batteries for optimal performance.
  • Coil Protection: Avoid striking the search coil against hard objects.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No power / Device won't turn on Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. Check battery polarity; replace with fresh batteries.
False signals / Erratic behavior High sensitivity setting; electromagnetic interference; mineralized ground. Reduce sensitivity; move away from power lines/electronics; perform ground balance (if applicable to mode).
Poor detection depth Low sensitivity; deeply buried target; highly mineralized ground. Increase sensitivity; sweep slower; try different modes.
Pinpointer not detecting Dead battery; not close enough to target. Replace battery; ensure tip is very close to the target.
